About the role

About us

"The very first in Charters Towers, was Millchester, this school of ours..."

Millchester State School is situated on the south-eastern side of Charters Towers. In 2024 our school celebrated 150 years of service to the community. From 1874 until 1947 our school was situated just off Millchester Road. The school was moved to its present location on Phillipson Road and now sits in extensive, picturesque grounds.

For many years the school existed as a teaching Principal plus one other Teacher school. However, enrolments over the years have seen the school expanded to Principal, six Classroom Teachers and Specialist Staff.

Despite the growth in student population, Millchester State School has retained the 'Small School' atmosphere for which it has been historically known.

Your opportunity

As Principal, you will lead the school community to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students. You will translate this vision into clear priorities and lead the implementation of strategies that support ongoing school improvement.

You will set high standards for student and staff performance and promote a culture of accountability, reflection and professional development. You will encourage staff to participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development, supporting the continued development of teaching and leadership practice.

You will uphold the principalship as a values-based, ethical and moral activity, demonstrating integrity and sound judgement in your leadership and decision-making. You will model high standards of professional conduct and foster trust, respect and shared responsibility across the school community.

Embedding socially just practices in daily school life will be central to your leadership. You will ensure equity and fairness are reflected in the school's practices, policies and interactions, while supporting an environment that respects the diverse needs and contributions of students, staff and the wider community.

Through purposeful leadership and engagement with the school community, you will lead continuous improvement and ensure the school's vision, priorities and practices remain focused on providing quality educational experiences for all students.
