Step into a career with ASM, where cutting edge technology meets collaborative culture.

For over 55 years ASM has been ahead of what’s next, at the forefront of innovation and what’s technologically possible. With more than 4,500 ASMers representing 70 nationalities, our people and our advanced semiconductor devices are playing a crucial role in trends such as 5G, cloud computing, AI, and autonomous driving. But we’re more than just a tech company. We value diversity, inclusion and sustainability as we strive to make a positive impact on the world. Our development programs help support your growth, shaping your future and pushing the boundaries of innovation to unleash potential.

Job's mission

As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the successful industrialization and lifecycle support of semiconductor capital equipment by serving as the critical link between Business Units and Operations, driving New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustained products alike for manufacturing readiness, supplier alignment, and continuous improvement initiatives. Enable scalable, cost-effective, and high-quality production through strong technical leadership in DFM, process optimization, root cause problem solving, tooling development, and cross-functional collaboration, while advancing operational excellence across quality, productivity, and efficiency.

What you will be working on

  • Serve as the primary engineering interface between Business Units (BU) and Global Operations (GOPS) for assigned the product lines.
  • Lead and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from development through production ramp-up.
  • Provide executive-level insights on manufacturing feasibility, cost, and schedules to shape ASM’s manufacturing strategy.
  • Manufacturing & Process Development
  • Introduce cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and methodologies.
  • Define and document manufacturing procedures, build sequences, test plans, and inspection standards.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing (DFM) assessments and provide actionable recommendations to improve manufacturability, quality, and labor/cost efficiency.
  • Develop and deliver tooling and test equipment solutions that meet product requirements while optimizing productivity.
  • Drive supplier and contract manufacturer alignment to support successful product launches and ramp-up activities.
  • Production Support & Operational Excellence
  • Resolve complex technical and strategic challenges with a positive, solution-focused mindset in high-pressure settings.
  • Support production teams in root cause investigations, ensuring timely containment and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Lead Design of Experiments (DOE), analyze technical findings, and present recommendations to support manufacturing improvements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, throughput, efficiency, and cost reduction.
  • Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
  • Foster technical collaboration and knowledge sharing across engineering, operations, field support, and cross-functional teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.

What we are looking for

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Materials, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment, preferably within the semiconductor capital equipment industry.
  • Strong knowledge of assembly, integration, and testing of complex systems, preferably within CVD, ALD, or Epitaxy applications.
  • Technical Expertise
  • Experienced in applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Lean Manufacturing principles to improve manufacturability and workflow efficiency.
  • Skilled in modular design, BOM structuring, and configurable product architecture.
  • Familiar with Product Lifecycle (PLC) processes, phase-gate reviews, and engineering change management.
  • Proficient in operational excellence and problem-solving methodologies, including FMEA, 8D, SPC, DMAIC, GR&R, Six Sigma, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Leadership & Influence
  • Proven ability to lead projects and influence cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.

What sets you apart

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience leading project management activities for NPI programs.
  • Background in supplier development and/or contract manufacturing support.
  • Exposure to manufacturing digitalization, automation, and data-driven process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with automation and scripting tools.

Apply today to be part of what’s next.

We make the tech that enables the chips in devices which improve lives around the world. We do this with an eye to the future, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible through cutting-edge innovation, and driving the next wave of technological breakthroughs that shape how we live, work, and connect.
