Ready to use your civil engineering experience to influence how road infrastructure is planned, delivered and maintained?

Transport and Main Roads is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer (Civil) to join Program Delivery and Operations in Rockhampton. This permanent, flexible full-time role provides the opportunity to combine your technical engineering expertise with project leadership across road infrastructure programs that support regional Queensland.

About the role

As Principal Engineer (Civil), you will manage operational aspects of individual road infrastructure projects and provide specialist technical expertise across design, construction, maintenance and operation of road networks.

You will provide leadership and advice to project managers, helping ensure infrastructure is delivered effectively, safely and in line with relevant standards, policies, legislation and project requirements.

What you'll do

In this role, you will:

  • Manage the development and delivery of routine and programmed maintenance and road rehabilitation programs.
  • Oversee contract performance and construction practices, supporting efficient processes and best practice.
  • Manage operational aspects of projects across the project management lifecycle.
  • Apply relevant engineering standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements.
  • Address quality and environmental requirements throughout project delivery.
  • Provide specialist advice on planning, design options, materials, resources and construction practices.
  • Coordinate resources, encourage effective teamwork and support achievement of project and organisational outcomes.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and proactively manage emerging, highrisk and sensitive matters.

What you'll bring

You'll be an experienced civil engineer with demonstrated capability in managing and delivering road infrastructure projects across design and pre-construction phases. You'll bring strong knowledge of engineering practice and project management, sound judgement, and the ability to analyse risk, drive accountability and build productive relationships.

A four-year Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), or an equivalent qualification accepted by Engineers Australia, is required. Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory, along with a current Class C driver licence. Project management qualifications or certification and experience leading multidisciplinary teams on large infrastructure projects are desirable.

Why join TMR?

At Transport and Main Roads, you'll contribute to infrastructure that supports connected communities across Queensland while continuing to develop your engineering and project leadership capability. TMR supports an inclusive workplace, career development and healthy work-life balance.

Bring your technical expertise, sound judgement and project leadership to a role where your decisions will directly influence the delivery of regional road infrastructure.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
