About the role

Akicita Federal is hiring a Physician (MD) to deliver full-scope primary care to Veterans served by the Lyle C. Pearson VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Mankato, MN. This is a full-time, onsite role supporting one of the VA's most direct points of contact with Veterans in southern Minnesota. You will be the primary clinical resource at the CBOC, shaping the health outcomes of a patient population that has earned every bit of expert, compassionate care.

  • Provide comprehensive primary care services including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions for Veteran patients
  • Conduct thorough patient history-taking, physical examinations, and clinical assessments in accordance with VA care standards
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans, coordinating referrals to specialty services as clinically indicated
  • Document all patient encounters, clinical decisions, and treatment plans accurately and promptly in the VA electronic health record system
  • Collaborate with the CBOC care team — including nurses, administrative staff, and ancillary providers — to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Participate in VA credentialing, privileging, and quality assurance processes as required by the facility
  • Support preventive care initiatives, chronic disease management, and population health goals aligned with VA clinical priorities

What sets candidates apart:

  • Prior clinical experience serving Veteran or military populations in a VA, DoD, or CBOC setting
  • Familiarity with VA electronic health record systems (e.g., CPRS/VistA or Oracle Health)
  • Experience in a rural or community-based outpatient clinic environment where the physician serves as the primary clinical resource
  • Strong background in chronic disease management and preventive care for complex patient populations
  • Experience navigating specialty referral coordination and care integration across a larger health system
