About the role

Milltown Partners is a global advisory firm working with influential organisations and individuals on the communications and public policy challenges that define their reputations.

We are looking for a junior policy adviser who brings at least 6 months professional experience - ideally in a consultancy setting - in European technology policy and public affairs to join our growing Brussels team as we continue to expand our work for the most innovate companies in the world.

The Policy Analyst role

Analysts provide policy analysis on which all our advice rests. They monitor discussions of our clients' interests among all EU institutions and stakeholders. All analysts produce excellent written work for a range of audiences and channels. They make valuable contributions to internal and external meetings offering both their point of view and organisational skills.

Responsibilities of the Policy Analyst role

Policy knowledge and analysis: finding and drawing insights from EU political developments to inform our advice

-Understanding the EU powers, how the EU institutions operate and the opportunities for advocacy within the policy cycle

-Using political intelligence and media news tools to monitor and understand the issues clients are facing, including the views of both their critics and supporters

-Utilising this information to inform our advice to clients

Strategic thinking: identifying the goal, and implications of different courses of influencing, to recommend the most effective public affairs approach

-Taking into account the client’s overall policy priorities and objectives, as well as key decision-makers to ensure the advocacy recommendations capture the best advocacy opportunities based on the EU policy cycle and specific EU political priorities that impact their business.

-Participating in team discussions to develop strategic and creative thinking for clients

-Developing your own interest in policy areas relevant to our clients and sharing your insights with clients and internal colleagues (eg. tech policy, competitiveness)

Written and verbal communication: expressing ideas fluently and persuasively for a range of different audiences

-Drafting compelling written content and supporting the execution of significant policy milestones (e.g. EU institutional announcements, policy briefings, advocacy strategies)

-Learning how to tailor the style and content of verbal and written communication to different audiences (i.e. decision-makers, stakeholders, EU media)

-Clearly articulating policy recommendations and advocacy milestones to implement them

Project management: planning and delivering priorities to meet agreed goals, timetable and budget

-Organising yourself and others to support the delivery of client or internal work in a timely fashion

-Taking responsibility for team administration across client and internal needs (e.g. policy monitoring, meeting agendas, scheduling calls, tracking work)

-Adapting your project management style to different client preferences

-Effectively practice time management to balance priorities across clients and within projects

-Actively communicating to keep teams informed and adapt to issues as they emerge

Contributing to a collaborative and inclusive work environment

-Giving and receiving regular feedback to people at all levels in the firm

-Actively seeking input or assistance from others and reflecting on their contributions in the work

-Demonstrating allyship to all colleagues

-Considering the role you can play in equitable career development to everyone in the firm

Must Have Skills & Experience

  • At least 6-months professional experience in a consultancy or advisory firm
  • Knowledge of EU policies, with a strong focus on policies affecting the tech sector (all businesses that would have an interest in technology and/or enabled by a tech service/app)
  • A fluent command of written and verbal English language
  • An interest in reputation management and consultancy
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop subject matter expertise in new topics
  • Ability to conduct in-depth policy analysis and translate findings into advocacy insights and recommendations
  • A highly motivated team member who values collaboration
  • A desire to seek out feedback in order to learn and develop
  • Commitment to contributing to a supportive and inclusive culture

What we offer in return

  • Twice yearly bonus based on company + individual performance (see below)
  • 24 days of annual leave in addition to the Belgian public holidays
  • Meal Vouchers of €8 / working day
  • EcoVouchers to the maximum of €250 per year
  • Pension insurance to the maximum value of 4%
  • Company Mobile Phone and Laptop
