About the role

Oncology Clinical Data Abstractor (Contract, Remote)

About the Role

At Natera, the Oncology Clinical Data Abstractor (fully remote, contract position) will leverage their oncology clinical knowledge and expertise to curate, abstract, and interpret Signatera patient data that is critical for reimbursement. As a clinical expert working within Natera’s AI-enabled platform, you will own the process from initial record review through submission of high-quality, structured data.

You will rely on your understanding of the oncology patient journey and cancer staging to turn complex clinical records into accurate, reimbursement-ready data. You will work closely with your team to ensure consistency and quality across every record. This role is ideal for a detail-driven oncology nurse who enjoys untangling complex clinical records and takes pride in getting every data point right.

What You’ll Do

Clinical Data Abstraction

  • Review clinical documentation to abstract key oncology data related to billing and reimbursement.
  • Abstract and interpret stage of disease using AJCC staging guidelines across all tumor types.
  • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely submission of curated data, identifying and communicating patient data deficiencies and discrepancies.

AI-Enabled Platform Workflows

  • Operationalize outputs from Natera’s AI-enabled platform to manage a daily queue of records.
  • Perform high quality review of AI-generated abstractions, correcting errors and escalating issues as needed.
  • Validate, finalize, and submit abstracted records within the platform, adapting to new data measures and workflows as they are introduced.

Operational Excellence

  • Apply meticulous attention to detail to catch errors, inconsistencies, and gaps before records are submitted.
  • Use critical thinking to interpret complex clinical documentation, resolve ambiguities, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Manage a high-volume daily queue with strong organization and follow-through, meeting quality and turnaround expectations.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • BSN or higher degree required; MSN preferred.
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (state or compact).
  • Must maintain licensure in good standing throughout the contract term.
  • Preferred: Board Certification as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of oncology clinical experience (5+ years preferred) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • Detailed understanding of the oncology patient journey.

Clinical Expertise

  • Must have: Strong knowledge and interpretation of AJCC staging for all tumor types.
  • Solid understanding of cancer biology, pathology, and oncologic treatment modalities in the neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings.

Technical Proficiency

  • Technology Adoption: Ability to master Natera’s AI-enabled platform and other internal platforms as needed.
  • Systems Familiarity: Familiarity with electronic medical records. Preferred: Epic experience, as occasional use is required.
  • Collaboration Tools: Working knowledge of the Google suite (e.g., Calendar, Chat, Sheets) for day-to-day communication and coordination.
