About the role

Decima International is a professional services company, providing project management and controls services to clients in the United States and the Middle East. Our mission is to become the premier professional services provider across all industry sectors we are engaged in. To accomplish this, Decima International’s founders established a simple yet powerful formula:

Approach each client engagement as a partnership, create an environment that attracts the most talented professionals and allows them to flourish, and regulate growth to maintain excellence in our service standards.

We are looking for a driven and capable MEP Construction Manager to support us in the delivery of multiple hyperscale data center projects for a major technology client, one of the top technology companies in the world. Based on-site in Phoenix, you will act as the client’s representative for all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) scopes, from design review and procurement through installation, commissioning, and turnover.

This client-facing role requires strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; the ability to self-direct; client representation experience; and deep technical command of mission-critical MEP systems. Candidates must be able to manage multiple projects and contractors concurrently. Hands-on experience with data center power distribution, cooling systems, controls, and integrated systems testing is a significant advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the client’s MEP lead on-site, overseeing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and controls scopes from pre-construction through close-out
  • Review MEP design documents, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs for constructability, code compliance, and alignment with client standards
  • Oversee installation of critical power systems, including medium- and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, PDUs, busway, and electrical rooms
  • Oversee installation of mechanical and cooling systems, including chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, air handlers, piping, and liquid cooling where applicable
  • Coordinate BMS, EPMS, and controls integration with design teams, contractors, and the client’s operations group
  • Manage long-lead MEP equipment procurement; track fabrication, factory witness testing (FWT), delivery, and setting against the schedule
  • Lead and support the commissioning process (Levels 1–5), including integrated systems testing (IST), and drive issue resolution to turnover
  • Prepare RFPs and support MEP contractor selection and the contract award process
  • Work with contractors to establish and maintain CPM baseline schedules; perform resource analyses to identify bottlenecks and constraints
  • Coordinate with local utilities and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) on service, permitting, and inspections
  • Identify project risks, gaps, and opportunities; provide recommendations to stakeholders to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities
  • Facilitate, lead, and chair project meetings (including OAC and MEP coordination meetings); maintain accurate meeting minutes and action items
  • Review and validate MEP progress, change orders, contractor pay applications, and invoices
  • Enforce site safety requirements, including electrical safety and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and report to management on progress, findings, and recommendations
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to strategy, positioning, proposals, and contract negotiations
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction project management experience on mission-critical or data center projects, including cost, schedule, quality, and risk management
  • 3+ years of construction scheduling and project controls experience using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or equivalent tools, including milestone tracking, critical path analysis, and project reporting
  • 3+ years of technical construction experience with electrical, mechanical, mission-critical, or infrastructure systems, including design reviews, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field execution
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, or a related technical field
  • Strong working knowledge of critical power distribution, HVAC and cooling systems, plumbing, fire protection, and building controls
  • Solid working knowledge of pre-construction, MEP coordination, contract management, project delivery methods, and building systems/components
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as NEC, NFPA 70E, IMC, and ASHRAE
  • Experience reviewing and validating contractor schedules, pay applications, and change orders
  • Experience in client-facing roles and developing reports for different audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technical and complex construction programs and communicate progress clearly to both technical and executive audiences
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior hyperscale data center construction experience, ideally for a major technology client
  • Experience with integrated systems testing (IST) and Level 1–5 commissioning
  • Experience with liquid cooling or high-density compute environments
  • Master’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with Earned Value Management
  • Active membership in PMI, CMAA, ASHRAE, or similar associations
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification
