About Trakka Systems

Trakka Systems is a global leader in the design, development, and manufacture of mission-critical vision, surveillance, and situational awareness solutions for airborne, maritime, and land-based operations. For more than 25 years, Trakka has delivered innovative technologies including advanced gyro-stabilized imaging systems, EO/IR sensor platforms, high-intensity searchlights, mission management and mapping software, counter-UAS solutions, and integrated surveillance systems that support defense, law enforcement, border security, search and rescue, utility, and special mission operators around the world. Trakka Systems is a member of the Acron Technologies platform of specialized companies that innovate to create safer skies and protect lives.

Trakka Systems is seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Drafter & Configuration Management Specialist to serve as the bridge between engineering design and controlled documentation. This role owns three interconnected responsibilities: producing and maintaining engineering drawings and 3D models in SolidWorks, driving the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process from creation through approval, and managing the company's part number (PN) system. The ideal candidate combines strong technical drafting skills with the organizational discipline to keep product documentation accurate, released, and traceable.

Time allocation is expected to be approximately 70% drafting and 3D modeling, 25% ECN coordination, and 5% configuration management, though the balance will shift with project and release demands.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting & 3D Modeling
  • Create, revise, and maintain detail, assembly, and installation drawings from engineering input, sketches, redlines, and verbal direction
  • Build and modify 3D parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, including sheet metal, weldments, and configurations
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5) and company drawing standards consistently; verify dimensions, tolerances, notes, and title-block data
  • Generate BOMs, exploded views, and revision tables directly from models
  • Collaborate with engineers to resolve design intent questions and incorporate feedback through iterative reviews
  • Maintain drawing templates, symbol libraries, and CAD file organization within the PDM/PLM system.
  • Engineering Change Notice (ECN) Coordination
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the ECN process; draft ECNs for new and updated documents with engineering support
  • Compile affected-document lists, redlines, disposition of inventory/WIP, and effectivity information for each change
  • Lead daily and weekly ECN review meetings; drive changes through approvals with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Supply Chain
  • Track ECN status, follow up on open actions, and report metrics (cycle time, backlog, aging)
  • Ensure released documents are properly revised, archived, and distributed; retire obsolete revisions
  • Configuration Management
  • Create and assign part numbers in accordance with the company PN structure and classification rules
  • Maintain the item master, part attributes, and document-to-part relationships in the PDM/ERP system
  • Enforce revision control, release procedures, and document-numbering conventions
  • Audit BOMs and drawing packages for accuracy and completeness prior to release
  • Support product structure changes, phase-in/phase-out planning, and configuration baselines
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of CM procedures, work instructions, and training

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of mechanical drafting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings); SolidWorks PDM or similar experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, ASME Y14.5, and standard drafting practices
  • Hands-on experience with ECN/ECO processes and revision control
  • Familiarity with part numbering systems, BOM structures, and ERP/PDM tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to catch discrepancies before release
  • Effective communication and facilitation skills; comfortable leading cross-functional meetings and holding stakeholders to deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Additional Qualifications

  • Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) or Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification
  • Experience in a regulated or standards-driven environment (ISO 9001, AS9100, ITAR, or similar)
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, welding, and assembly
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other 2D CAD tools for legacy drawings
  • Experience with CM standards (EIA-649) or document control certification.

Trakka Systems is a member of the Acron Technologies platform of specialized companies that innovate to create safer skies and protect lives.
