About the role

Valdes Architecture & Engineering is seeking an experienced Master Scheduler to lead project planning, scheduling, forecasting, and schedule performance management for complex engineering and capital projects. This position develops and maintains integrated master schedules, identifies project risks, evaluates schedule performance, and partners with project leadership to implement proactive solutions. The ideal candidate brings advanced Primavera P6 expertise, a strong understanding of engineering and construction project lifecycles, and the ability to translate complex scheduling information into actionable project decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Master Scheduling & Project Planning

  • Lead development, implementation, and maintenance of Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) using Primavera P6
  • Develop logic-driven schedules encompassing engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout as applicable
  • Establish and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), baselines, milestones, activity relationships, resources, and critical paths
  • Integrate schedules across engineering disciplines, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders
  • Develop resource-loaded and cost-loaded schedules and standardized scheduling templates and reporting practices

Schedule Analysis, Forecasting & Risk Management

  • Perform critical path, schedule variance, float, and schedule health analyses to identify delays and opportunities
  • Monitor progress against baselines and develop recovery, mitigation, and corrective action plans
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative schedule risk assessments, sensitivity analysis, contingency evaluation, and scenario planning
  • Forecast milestones and completion dates and evaluate impacts of scope changes, resource constraints, and procurement delays

Project Controls & Performance Management

  • Integrate schedule performance with cost, resource, risk, and change management processes
  • Support Earned Value Management (EVM), including SPI, CPI, and variance reporting
  • Partner with project leadership to evaluate performance and recommend corrective actions
  • Review contractor and subcontractor schedules for accuracy, logic, and contractual alignment
  • Perform schedule impact assessments for change orders, delays, and contract adjustments
  • Maintain baseline and change-control documentation; prepare dashboards, milestone forecasts, and executive reports

Collaboration & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as scheduling subject matter expert to Project Managers, Engineering Leads, and leadership
  • Lead scheduling meetings and communicate performance, risks, and recommendations
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to validate sequencing, durations, dependencies, and resources
  • Mentor scheduling and project controls personnel and improve scheduling methodologies and reporting processes

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressively responsible project scheduling experience supporting complex engineering, construction, or capital projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered
  • Advanced proficiency in Oracle Primavera P6, including development, integration, maintenance, and analysis of complex schedules
  • Demonstrated ownership of Integrated Master Schedules and expertise in CPM scheduling, baselines, resource loading, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost/schedule integration, risk, change management, and performance reporting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to independently assess risks, recommend corrective actions, and manage competing priorities
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Large industrial capital project experience in power generation, utilities, chemical processing, oil and gas, manufacturing, or infrastructure
  • Experience in engineering consulting, EPC, EPCM, or construction management environments
  • Experience across front-end planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning
  • Familiarity with Monte Carlo simulation, schedule risk analysis, and quantitative forecasting
  • Experience with EVM, cost-loaded schedules, and integrated project controls reporting
  • Experience with Deltek Acumen Fuse, Primavera Risk Analysis, or similar schedule quality tools
  • Knowledge of delay analysis, time impact analysis, contract scheduling, and change orders
  • AACE PSP, PMI-SP, PMP, or comparable professional certification
  • Experience mentoring schedulers or establishing scheduling standards

What You’ll Bring to Valdes

  • A proactive approach that anticipates challenges and improves project outcomes
  • Technical scheduling expertise paired with practical business judgment
  • Confidence working with engineers, Project Managers, clients, and leadership
  • Commitment to schedule accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
