About the role

The Manufacturing Supervisor, NGS TE Production will bring strong knowledge of synthetic and molecular biology techniques, including PCR, vector production, cloning, miniprep, DNA analysis, sequencing, and packaging. In this role, you’ll perform, train, and oversee production staff on molecular biology workflows in a highly automated, high-throughput environment, and you’ll be responsible for manufacturing and analyzing a variety of custom gene products across Twist Bioscience’s proprietary workflow according to SOPs and the daily production schedule.

The ideal candidate works independently, is highly organized, has excellent molecular biology skills, maintains and builds 5S systems, contributes to process improvement and documentation, and communicates effectively with peers and management. You’ll have knowledge of good laboratory practices (GLPs), familiarity with GMP or ISO-rated production, and experience leading and training others. You must be comfortable working in a LEAN manufacturing, controlled laboratory environment.

Shift 2B: Wednesday-Friday w/alt Saturday 7:00pm-7:30am

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manufacture high-quality custom gene products in a high-throughput manufacturing lab according to established SOPs
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and detailed documentation of all work in batch records, databases, or other approved formats, including problems and deviations
  • Operate semi-automated and automated lab equipment for molecular biology workflows
  • Track metrics on product quality using both physical and functional test methods
  • Apply scientific principles to problem-solve and troubleshoot test results
  • Proactively identify production problems and recommend solutions for lab techniques, protocols, processes, and product and equipment handling
  • Uphold standards defined by the manufacturing process
  • Support continuous cost and process improvement initiatives
  • Work safely at all times
  • Maintain and calibrate select lab equipment
  • Lead shift pass-down efforts and prioritize workflows
  • Take accountability for the shift when senior personnel are not on site
  • Advise on meeting schedules and resolving technical problems, and provide production guidance to junior manufacturing staff
  • Schedule staff
  • Review and verify production batch records and manufacturing documents
  • Write and submit incident reports, CAPAs, planned deviations, and related documentation
  • Follow regulatory and ISO 13485 requirements

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • A.S. or B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry
  • Minimum of 5 years of lab experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience operating liquid handlers such as Hamilton and Tecan
  • Experience with instrumentation for PCR, cell-based cloning, miniprep extraction, and purification is a huge plus
  • Experience with sample tracking software and with interfaces between robotic instrumentation and LIMS/MES systems
  • Experience working in ISO, GMP, and LEAN manufacturing environments and applying lean manufacturing concepts
  • Excellent scientific computation and data analysis skills
  • Experience assessing current processes and techniques and implementing procedural improvements
  • Experience leading small teams in a laboratory environment
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods while performing duties
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials
