About the role

The Role

The Manager, UI/UX leads the team responsible for creating simple, effective, and engaging digital experiences that balance user needs, Brand Ambassador needs, and business objectives. The role sets UX/UI direction across the consumer shopping experience and the tools Brand Ambassadors use to run their businesses.

This player-coach owns the Plexus Design System, leads a small team of designers and content specialists, and partners with Product, Marketing, IT, and business stakeholders to set priorities and deliver measurable improvements. The Manager remains hands-on when needed and uses research, testing, analytics, and design quality assurance to guide decisions.

The Employee Value Proposition

This leader will build and govern the Plexus Design System, drive adoption across digital products, and shape both consumer commerce and complex field-facing tools. The role offers meaningful ownership rather than stewardship of an established system.

Plexus has the traffic to test ideas quickly and an engaged field that provides direct access to users. The Manager can connect design decisions to conversion, activation, retention, and revenue while staying close to the work and presenting directly to senior leaders.

Key Performance Objectives

  1. Launch and drive adoption of the Plexus Design System. Deliver version one with core components, usage guidance in Figma and code, accessibility standards, and a governance model. By year-end, it is used on priority digital experiences, is the default for new work, and reduces design-to-development rework.
  2. Improve a critical business metric through design. With Product and Marketing, select and baseline a flagship funnel such as checkout, subscription or autoship management, or new Brand Ambassador onboarding. Use research and testing to deliver an agreed, measurable improvement.
  3. Establish a repeatable research and testing practice. During the first quarter, define baseline UX measures and a practical cadence for user research, usability studies, prototype validation, and A/B testing so material design decisions are supported by evidence.
  4. Establish the accessibility baseline. Audit priority experiences, create a risk-based remediation plan, and embed accessibility requirements into the design system, design reviews, development handoffs, and definition of done.

Performance Accountabilities

Experience Strategy and Partnership

  • Serves as the primary UX/UI partner for business, Product, Marketing, and IT, translating business and user needs into clear priorities and design solutions.
  • Turns strategy, requirements, and user stories into intuitive information architecture, flows, layouts, interactions, and end-to-end experiences.
  • Builds stakeholder alignment, communicates recommendations and tradeoffs, and presents priorities, progress, and outcomes to leadership.
  • Design System and Standards
  • Owns the roadmap, governance, development, adoption, and evolution of the Plexus Design System across customer- and field-facing products.
  • Establishes reusable components, patterns, usage guidance, accessibility requirements, and contribution standards in Figma and code.
  • Maintains UX/UI standards and review practices that improve consistency, usability, scalability, and delivery efficiency.

Research Measurement and Improvement

  • Establishes a user-centered practice that incorporates research, usability testing, prototyping, A/B testing, analytics, and competitive insight.
  • Leads studies, synthesizes findings, and translates evidence into priorities and design decisions.
  • Defines UX/UI success measures and pursues opportunities to improve conversion, engagement, activation, retention, task completion, and satisfaction.

Delivery Team Leadership and Operations

  • Leads high-priority digital experiences across multiple workstreams while remaining hands-on with flows, wireframes, designs, and prototypes when appropriate.
  • Partners with Product, Marketing, IT, developers, content specialists, and business teams from discovery through release and leads design quality assurance.
  • Coaches and develops team members, sets clear expectations, and builds a collaborative, accountable, high-performing team.
  • Owns intake, prioritization, resource allocation, and delivery planning; reports on capacity, progress, risks, dependencies, and decisions needed.
  • Works occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays when business needs require support outside regular hours.

Performance Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in interaction design, product design, user experience, human-computer interaction, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of UX/UI, product design, interaction design, or comparable experience, including at least two years leading teams.
  • Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving a design system and driving adoption across digital products.
  • Portfolio showing strong UX thinking, interaction design, visual craft, user-centered problem solving, and measurable outcomes across responsive web and mobile experiences.
  • Practical front-end development or coding experience and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong command of UX strategy, information architecture, interaction and visual design, responsive web and mobile standards, prototyping, and design quality assurance.
  • Proficiency with Figma and modern design-system workflows, including components, libraries, tokens, documentation, versioning, and governance.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility and the ability to incorporate it into design standards, reviews, and delivery practices.
  • Ability to conduct user research and usability studies and use analytics and A/B testing to evaluate outcomes.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder-influence skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines for self and team, anticipate obstacles, and deliver in a changing environment.
  • Self-directed, solutions-oriented leader who builds trusted relationships and positive user and stakeholder experiences.
