About the role

Outline of the Job

eVTOLs (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft) flying at a fixed altitude of around 300 meters carry a risk of lightning strikes, making lightning protection a critical element in their development. As a Lightning Engineer, you will be involved in the development, design, and evaluation of lightning protection for both the aircraft and its onboard equipment.

In this position, you will collaborate with experts across a wide range of technical fields—including flight control, battery management, power electronics, structures, aerodynamics, and certification—while contributing to a groundbreaking project to create urban air mobility solutions that will lead the future of transportation.

  • Develop and implement lightning protection design for eVTOL aircraft and onboard equipment.
  • Defines and implements EMI/EMC requirements to meet specified product performance for all aspects of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) compliance, including but not limited to EMI/ EMC/ EME/ ESD/ EMP and Lightning.
  • Perform zoning studies, identify potential lightning attachment points and current paths, and define appropriate protection strategies
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure lightning protection requirements are effectively integrated into overall aircraft design, such as : structures design team, rotor team, motors/ESCs team, power team, avionic team, EWIS team , and certification team
  • Plan and execute lightning tests at both component and aircraft levels, define countermeasures as needed, and support compliance and certification activities.

Job Highlight

  • Be part of a team developing state-of-the-art eVTOL technology that is set to transform urban transportation.
  • Contribute to creating environmentally friendly solutions that will have a lasting positive impact on our cities and the planet.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development opportunities within a cutting-edge industry.
  • Work with a diverse team of experts who are passionate about innovation and excellence.

Essential Skills

  • Practical experience in lightning protection design for aircraft, including planning, testing, implementation, and certification.

  • Ability to design, validate, and integrate lightning protection measures in compliance with aviation standards

Desirable Skills

  • Have practical experience improving aircraft-level noise performance and build quality in safety-critical aviation products, including collaboration with suppliers.
  • Possess experience in upstream EMC design and noise mitigation, covering not only individual boards but also complex modules or entire systems. Experience with high-voltage electrical equipment noise mitigation is especially welcome.
  • Hold the iNARTE EMC Engineer certification.
