About the role

Overview

Guidepoint is seeking a Legal Counsel based in Shanghai to join its global legal team. This role will serve as a lead legal resource for APAC matters, providing timely, practical advice during APAC business hours while partnering closely with colleagues in other regions. The successful candidate will bring sound judgment, hands-on regional experience, and strong knowledge of applicable statutory and regulatory requirements to help the company navigate matters as they arise across APAC and its broader international office network.

What You Will Do

This is a broad-based counsel role with a primary APAC focus. Responsibilities include:

  • Act as a lead legal point of contact for APAC business stakeholders, coordinating with the global legal team to deliver consistent, commercially practical advice.
  • Advise on employment-related matters, including performance management, employee relations, workplace investigations, terminations, restrictive covenants, and the development of compliant employment policies, handbooks, and training materials.
  • Interpret and apply relevant statutory, regulatory, privacy and data protection, and employment-law requirements across APAC jurisdictions; monitor legal developments and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Lead, advise and conduct internal investigations and represent the company in liaising with governing, law enforcement and regulatory authorities conducting external investigations and inquiries
  • Represent the Company in responding to Client legal and compliance inquiries
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including service agreements, NDAs, employment agreements, and IP and data licensing agreements.
  • Partner with Legal, Human Resources, Finance, Compliance, Product, and business teams on corporate initiatives, regulatory issues, and risk assessments.
  • Support the development and implementation of company policies, procedures, and compliance initiatives, including adapting them for local legal requirements where appropriate.
  • Review marketing collateral and business practices for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage pre-litigation, dispute-resolution, and other contentious matters; oversee and work effectively with outside counsel across jurisdictions.
  • Provide responsive legal support on matters arising in APAC and, as needed, in other company offices around the world

What You Have

  • A law degree (J.D., LL.B., or equivalent) and admission to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction; qualification in the People’s Republic of China is strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, financial institution, investment fund, or comparable environment.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on legal matters in APAC, with practical knowledge of regional statutory and regulatory frameworks. Experience with PRC employment and commercial law is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: employment law, commercial contracting, litigation or dispute resolution, compliance, corporate matters, data or IP, insurance, tax, or transactional support.
  • Ability to assess legal risk, prioritize competing matters, and communicate clear, solutions-oriented advice to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, organization, and relationship-management skills.
  • Professional fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese; additional APAC language capability is a plus.
  • High integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive matters, with the flexibility to operate effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative international environment.

What we Offer

  • 14 annual leave days (PTO Days), 11 legal holidays, and 7 full paid sick days
  • Social insurances and housing fund
  • Free snacks and beverages in the office, including free coffee
  • Competitive salary depending on experience.
