Now we're scaling our products for both agents and people to ship and run software, built in the open and trusted by OpenAI, PayPal, Ramp, Supreme, and millions of developers worldwide.

About the role

As Commercial Counsel, you'll close Vercel's customer, vendor, and partner agreements as the company's deal volume climbs with its growth. You'll serve as the primary legal contact for go-to-market and procurement deals, independently negotiating commercial agreements while using AI to build playbooks, templates, and processes that boost the team's efficiency and deal velocity as Vercel scales. This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary legal contact for go-to-market and procurement teams, giving clear, practical advice
  • Draft and maintain agreement templates, playbooks, and fallback positions
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to improve contracting processes and tools, using AI to speed up deals and keep them consistent as Vercel scales
  • Advise on Vercel's regional expansion strategy, and support commercial legal work in EMEA and APAC plus product, privacy, and security initiatives

What you need

  • Qualified and in good standing to practice law in California or another US jurisdiction
  • 6+ years of legal experience, including 2+ years of in-house commercial experience at a technology company (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, or AI)
  • Proven experience independently negotiating technology agreements with enterprise customers and vendors
  • Working knowledge of US privacy regulations and the regulatory landscape for AI and cloud services, plus experience using AI tools to build legal workflows
  • Comfortable making risk-based calls on deals with incomplete information, and explaining the reasoning to both legal and business stakeholders

Bonus if you have

  • Have used Vercel's products and services
  • Have supported channel or reseller partnerships
  • Are fluent in another language
