About the role

Ippon Australia is a team of true technologists who leverage contemporary thinking and tools to enhance the way our clients drive value. Whether it’s a bespoke platform to improve employee engagement within a national retail chain, or developing an app that provides next level direct customer interaction; value is delivered to our clients when we begin by understanding the business outcomes they desire and then apply our technical expertise to make these a reality.

We are expanding our market offering through the development of a Data & AI practice and are searching for passionate Data Engineers to join us. The Data practice complements our capabilities in Experience Design and Product, as well as Software Engineering and Cloud, further enhancing our ability to deliver comprehensive business outcomes to our clients.

The Lead Data Engineering Consultant will embrace ambiguity whilst leading through active engagements with clients. You’ll work all the way from discovery to delivery and beyond to solve problems that are at the heart of some of our clients most burning issues. You’ll find the work challenging, the people stimulating and the environment friendly, welcoming and accepting.

We’re a team of committed technologists here to do our best work, we’re quick to trust, easy to get along with and curators of elegant solutions.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of scalable data platforms and data warehouse solutions
  • Design and implement robust data architectures using Snowflake, AWS, Azure, and/or Databricks
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across projects, setting standards and guiding delivery teams
  • Build, optimise, and maintain data pipelines, models, and storage layers to ensure reliable data outcomes
  • Collaborate with data governance and reporting stakeholders to align solutions with broader data strategy
  • Support pre-sales activities by contributing to solution design, scoping, and client proposals
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights
  • Present solutions and progress confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Partner with project managers to ensure delivery is on track, within scope, and aligned to expectations

Competencies we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Relevant Data Engineering certifications (e.g. Snowflake, Azure, Databricks) highly regarded
  • Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake in production environments
  • Proven experience designing and delivering modern cloud-based data platforms and data warehousing solutions
  • Advanced capability in data modelling, performance optimisation, security, and data sharing within Snowflake
  • Solid experience building and orchestrating ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Airflow, dbt, or similar
  • Demonstrated consulting experience—translating business requirements into scalable, pragmatic data solutions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and business stakeholders
  • Analytical and solution-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering outcomes
  • Adaptable and curious, with a genuine interest in evolving data engineering practices and technologies
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively across cross-functional teams
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team capability uplift
  • High attention to detail, with a strong focus on data quality, integrity, and reliability

At Ippon, we see things differently both in terms of how we work with our clients and how we engage with our people. As we are a relatively small team, albeit part of a global consultancy, we are focussed on quality, not quantity, when it comes to both our clients and our people. From a client perspective, we work with a select group of enterprises that genuinely value the innovation and value that we deliver.

From a people perspective we pay market leading salaries. But we also understand that professional fulfilment is not just about money. We actively support ongoing development in the form of training, attendance at conferences, etc, and we provide staff with the opportunity to contribute to the development and strategic direction of the business. Work life balance is key and we are a flexible organisation, offering 4 day a week option to support your personal and professional development.

Ippon is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building an inclusive culture that encourages, celebrates and supports our diversity everyday.
