About the role

A World-Changing Company

Palantir builds the world’s leading software for data-driven decisions and operations. By bringing the right data to the people who need it, our platforms empower our partners to develop lifesaving drugs, forecast supply chain disruptions, locate missing children, and more.

The Role

Palantir's in-house legal team works to proactively address legal issues so that Palantir can continue to drive positive impact in the world. Our IP Counsel are the legal backbone of Palantir's intellectual property strategy across all domains: patents, trademark, copyright, and trade secret. In this role you'll become a go-to advisor on the protection of Palantir's cutting edge technology. You'll have the opportunity to work on a wide array of intellectual property matters, including patent harvesting, portfolio development, and landscaping, trademark strategy and management, licensing and partnership agreements, open source strategy and compliance, product development issues, and strategic advice for product and business teams.

Our ideal candidate has strong technical and interpersonal skills, meaning you are comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders from software developers and internal business teams, to third parties. You're able to maintain focus on the details and can take on novel, complex issues as they arise, whilst also holding the ownership and sense of responsibility needed to bring large and multi-stepped projects to completion. Although focused on intellectual property, as a member of the legal team you're excited to work on the broad range of projects that arise at a fast-paced, dynamic company.

What You'll Do

  • Become an expert in and stay up-to-date with Palantir's state-of-the-art technology.
  • Collaborate with our engineering teams to identify and protect innovative products and solutions.
  • Use and help develop in-house patent tools built on Palantir’s leading AI platform.
  • Develop and implement intellectual property strategies in response to evolving business needs, including harvesting and ensuring alignment of Palantir's patent and trademark portfolios with business priorities.
  • Craft practical legal advice on a wide range of IP issues.

What We Value

  • Prior experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
  • Familiarity with Large Language Models, programming languages, and/or software development practices.
  • Prior experience/demonstrated interest in supporting IP litigation.
  • Interest in prosecuting small number high-value patents filed at the USPTO using in-house AI automations built on the Palantir platform.

What We Required

  • JD and 3+ years of intellectual property-related legal practice experience (in-house experience preferred).
  • Experience with patent prosecution, open source compliance, product counseling, and managing outside counsel.
  • Demonstrated interest in new software technologies and eagerness to dive into technical details.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and balance competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
