Whether you are at HQ, in a retail store, or remote, you will be part of a team that thrives on energy, exploration, and connection.

Reports to: HR Manager

Location: Utah Fulfillment Center, West Valley City, UT - On-site five days per week

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9a-5p

About the Role

Backcountry's Utah Fulfillment Center needs a dedicated HR partner who owns the full people function for a high-volume hourly workforce. As Human Resources Business Partner, you will be the on-site HR presence where your decisions directly shape culture, retention, and operational performance across every touchpoint of the employee lifecycle.

At 6–12 months, success means turnover holds steady, the supervisory team continues building people-management skills, and employee relations matters are handled with consistency, speed, and zero compliance exposure. Leaders trust you, employees know you, and HR is seen as a partner in sustaining operational results.

What You'll Do

Operational HR Partnership

  • Serve as the key HR partner to FC leaders on day-to-day people operations.
  • Participate in decision-making discussions that impact staffing, retention, and culture.
  • Create accountability through shared ownership of people metrics and leadership cross-training.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Lead local onboarding efforts, ensuring a welcoming and consistent new-hire experience.

Employee Experience & Retention

  • Champion the full employee lifecycle—from onboarding to development milestones and recognition.
  • Identify trends from exit interviews and employee feedback; use insights to improve retention and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the team to set and track clear retention goals.

Training & Development

  • Design and deliver supervisor training and development programs.
  • Upskill leaders through instructor-led sessions and on-the-job support.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate employee records and compliance documentation.
  • Partner with Safety and Operations teams to support OSHA initiatives and maintain a culture of safety.
  • Handle employee relations matters, conduct investigations, and recommend appropriate next steps.
  • Support DEI and engagement initiatives at the local level.

Data & Reporting

  • Create and share monthly HR metrics with site leadership, contributing to reporting consistency across locations.
  • Track progress on key indicators including turnover, hiring performance, engagement scores, and compliance.

Schedule & Shift Details

  • What the work involves: You will be the on-site HR presence at Backcountry's Utah Fulfillment Center, spending time on the warehouse floor partnering with FC leaders and hourly employees on people operations, investigations, onboarding, and training.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in an HR Generalist or related role, ideally in a fulfillment, logistics, or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR fundamentals.
  • Comfortable supporting both hourly and salaried employees in a frontline environment.
  • Proactive communicator who builds trust and influences across all levels.
  • Demonstrated success with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and retention.
  • Experience with HRIS systems and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with OSHA or safety regulations in an operational setting.

Why Join

The people who do best here are builders. They take ownership, move fast, and want to see the direct impact of their work.

  • Cross-Functional Impact: Your work touches operations, safety, training, and leadership development—you are not siloed in a back office.
  • Skill Building: Build hands-on expertise across the full HR lifecycle in a high-volume environment that accelerates your growth.
  • Ownership: Own projects end-to-end—from designing supervisor training to driving retention strategy for the site.
  • Competitive Benefits: Paid time off policies, 401(k) match, medical/dental/vision and a variety of supplemental policies, and employee discounts across our portfolio of brands.

Interview Process

  1. Recruiter Screen - A 45-minute conversation with our recruiting team to align on the role, your background, and what you are looking for.
  2. Hiring Manager Interview - A conversation with the hiring manager about your experience, the day-to-day of the role, and how you approach the work.
  3. On-Site In-Person Interview - An in-person interview with our site leadership at the facility. Details and logistics will be arranged with your recruiter.
  4. Final Interview - A meeting with our management team and the team you would be joining.
  5. Reference Checks - Conducted in parallel with the final stages where possible.
  6. Offer - We move quickly for the right candidate.

Interview process is subject to change. Any updates will be communicated promptly and clearly.

Please Note

  • Part of our interview process is a mandatory in-person interview with someone on our team prior to an offer. Candidates that are unwilling or unable to meet for an in-person interview will be removed from consideration immediately.
