About the role

About BMD

BMD is Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business. As the largest privately owned civil contractor in Australia, BMD is at the forefront of excellence, with a growing international footprint extending to the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating enduring legacies, we deliver complex infrastructure solutions that connect and transform communities. For over 45 years, our diverse portfolio of projects and roles has provided exceptional opportunities for our people to grow and make a lasting impact. As part of our team, you'll help deliver challenging projects while being supported by strong leadership and an inclusive, people-first culture.

About the Role

Due to continued growth across the business, BMD is seeking an experienced Human Resources Officer to join our People & Culture team based at our Port of Brisbane office.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, you will provide end-to-end HR support across a range of operational business units, partnering closely with leaders and employees to deliver effective people solutions. This is a hands-on generalist role that requires someone who is confident managing competing priorities, building strong stakeholder relationships and working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

We are looking for a mature HR professional who has developed a solid foundation in human resources and can confidently support recruitment, employee relations, onboarding, workforce planning and general HR administration. Previous experience within the construction, civil infrastructure, mining, engineering, resources or project-based industries will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support managers and employees with general HR enquiries and employee lifecycle matters.
  • Coordinate onboarding, inductions, transfers, promotions and employee movements.
  • Assist with workforce planning and resourcing activities across multiple business units.
  • Support employee relations matters and provide guidance on policies, procedures and workplace practices.
  • Prepare employment contracts, variation letters and other HR documentation.
  • Maintain employee records and HR systems, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Coordinate training and development activities and maintain associated records.
  • Support employee engagement, retention and culture initiatives.
  • Assist with workforce reporting, compliance activities and HR projects.
  • Build strong relationships with operational leaders and act as a trusted support resource across the business.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Human Resources function.

What You'll Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a Human Resources, People & Culture or Recruitment role.
  • Previous experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, mining, resources or other operational environments is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.
  • Experience supporting the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations and performance management processes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build credibility across all levels of the business.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills and confidence using HR systems.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a willingness to take ownership of responsibilities.

Benefits

We believe our people do their best work when they feel supported, both personally and professionally. That's why we offer benefits that go beyond the basics:

  • Grow your career with specialised learning and development programs.
  • Be recognised through our annual employee awards and Thrive reward and recognition platform.
  • Prioritise wellbeing with mental health support and discounted gym memberships.
  • Support your family with paid parental leave for primary and secondary carers and flexible work arrangements.
  • Access great perks including novated leasing, Power Perks and discounts with hundreds of retailers.

Diversity and Inclusion

We recognise that we are strengthened by diversity and are committed to creating a flexible, inclusive and respectful workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute.
