This role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys employee relations, likes keeping a company compliant across many states, and wants to be a trusted, approachable resource for employees at a fast-moving federal technology company. You will help guide sensitive and difficult conversations and play a key part in our move to a new HRIS platform.

You Will Get To

  • Serve as a go-to resource for employees on workplace concerns, policy questions and HR processes.
  • Prepare for, facilitate and document difficult conversations, including performance concerns, conflict resolution, corrective action and separations. Support workplace investigations and accommodation requests.
  • Coach and advise people managers before and after sensitive employee conversations so issues are handled consistently, fairly and in compliance with policy.
  • Help maintain the employee handbook, state-specific addenda and documented SOPs for HR processes.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding, including exit interviews, and maintain accurate, confidential personnel records.
  • Help run performance review cycles by keeping timelines on track, following up on completion and supporting manager and employee conversations.
  • Support compliance with federal requirements such as DCAA and OFCCP. Track mandatory training and help prepare documentation for audits.

Who You Are

  • Comfortable leading or supporting difficult conversations with empathy, professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Trusted to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Service-oriented and approachable, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage several priorities at once in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive about spotting compliance risks and process gaps before they become problems.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant HR experience, with direct, hands-on involvement in employee relations.
  • Working knowledge of employment law and experience supporting compliance across multiple states.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace.
  • Located in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area and willing to work a hybrid schedule (1 day per week in Silver Spring, MD).

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Rippling or ADP, especially during an HRIS implementation or migration.
  • Experience with federal contracting compliance (DCAA, OFCCP).
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP or PHR).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Experience in a technology consulting or professional services environment.
