About the role

Type: Full-time in London (Waterloo, hybrid)

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

What We Do

At Heat Geek, we are tackling one of the UK’s biggest carbon contributors: home heating. Nearly 20% of all UK carbon emissions stems from home heating – and that contribution is even bigger on a global scale.

At Heat Geek, we are changing that. By simplifying a traditionally complex industry and revolutionising the technology used by installers, we’re making low-carbon heating mainstream. We have already prevented 2,500,000+ kg of carbon from entering our atmosphere, and we won’t stop there!

Join Us!

People are at the core of who we are and what we do. From decreasing homeowners’ energy bills to help with the cost of living, to empowering talented heating engineers to perform outstanding installations, to ensuring a greener world for all of us, we believe in the power of what we can all do together. – And we need passionate, talented, hard working people to be a part of this journey.

Your Mission

Heat Geek is excited to bring a Head of Finance into our team. We want someone to own the finance function end to end: run it tightly, understand what the numbers are telling us, automate aggressively, and turn insight into decisions. You’ll be our number one in finance, working directly with the CEO and COO, and building the team that gets us through the next stage of growth.

If you’re reading this and it resonates with you, we know that you are talented and could do this work anywhere. But we want you to do it HERE, with us, because we need persevering teammates who care about making a real difference in the world.

What you'll own

A tightly run finance function. You’ll bring an auditor’s mindset to how we operate. That means proportionate but robust controls, a clean close, and a monthly set of numbers on Heat Geek’s performance that the leadership team trusts without caveats. P&L against budget and prior periods, balance sheet reviews, cash and debtor discipline, all delivered on time and to a standard you’d be happy to defend.

Analysis and comprehension of the numbers. Producing the numbers is the baseline. You’ll understand them. That means spotting the trend before it becomes a problem, noticing the margin that’s drifting or the cost line that doesn’t add up, and getting to the root cause rather than just reporting it. When something needs attention you’ll flag it clearly at the top of the business and own driving it to resolution. We want someone who reads the monthly pack and tells us what it means, not just what it says.

Data, automation and AI. You’ll make finance a reason Heat Geek excels, not a cost centre that keeps up. You’re technically minded and already use AI tools every day. You’ll own our finance systems and data architecture, integrate them cleanly with the wider platform, build self-serve reporting so budget holders stop waiting for month-end, and set sensible guardrails around accuracy, auditability and data protection. The aim is a function that scales on systems, not headcount.

Business partnering. You’ll bring the numbers to life. Quarterly budgeting and reforecasting, cash and runway, scenario modelling with the leadership team on the decisions that actually matter, and strategic support through fundraising and investor reporting. You’ll be a trusted partner to the CEO and COO, not a reporting line.

Team leadership. You’ll build and grow a high-performing finance team, and you’ll do it as a supportive, development-focused manager. Clear expectations, clear roles, real progression pathways, and a culture of ownership, commercial thinking and curiosity about better ways of working.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Proven startup or scale-up experience as the number one in finance
  • Hands-on track record automating finance processes and implementing finance systems, and genuinely fluent with AI tools in your own work
  • Strong controls instinct paired with a commercial mindset: you care about the numbers being right and about what they mean
  • Sharp analytical instincts: you see the story in the numbers and raise what matters early
  • A manager people want to work for, with a real desire to build and develop a team
  • Comfortable in ambiguity and happy building structure where little exists
  • Motivated by the mission and the shift to low-carbon heating

It’s a bonus if you have…

  • Experience within a VC backed or private investor driven company
  • Worked in multi-entity or international finance
  • Worked in FinOps and/or process improvement
  • Experience with a marketplace business model
  • Experience with heat pumps, renewable energy, construction, or utilities

We believe great teams are built from different ways of thinking, learning, and living, and as such, we strive to build an organisation where people can show up as themselves. – Even if you don’t tick every box listed above, but are passionate about the work that we are doing and believe that you can make a positive impact here, we’d love to hear from you. So please drop us a message or share more detail in your application!

Ways of Working + Benefits

This is a 3-day-in-the-office hybrid role where you will work with the team at our office in Sustainable Ventures in Waterloo, Europe's biggest climate tech hub. It's a 5-minute walk from Waterloo Station and an energising space for anyone working on climate change. And don’t get us started on the epic view!

Some of our measurable benefits include:

  • £5,000 contribution towards your own heat pump installation
  • Shares in the company, allocated under a tax-incentivised scheme
  • Salary that’s evaluated regularly, and based on skills, impact, and role scope—not negotiation tactics
  • Private medical & dental insurance
  • Learning and development budget
  • Annual summer retreat
  • Gym membership contribution
  • Season train ticket loan
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Yoga, run club and social events with other sustainability startups in our co-working space

…alongside monthly socials and regular collaboration opportunities with a team that’s passionate, hardworking, and kind.
