Job Overview

As a Field Service Programs & Operations Engineer at Mainspring Energy, you will serve as a technical leader supporting the Operations & Maintenance organizations. You will bridge Field Service, Operations, Quality, and Engineering by translating field challenges into practical technical solutions, scalable service programs, and improved maintenance practices.

This is a field-facing and hands-on engineering role. You will work directly with Field Service Technicians, Supervisors, and Managers to support advanced troubleshooting, develop field service tooling and processes, and plan and execute special projects across the fleet. The role will also support the development and implementation of programs that improve fleet availability, safety, reliability, and field execution.

This position does not have direct people management responsibility but will be expected to provide technical leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Field Service programs, procedures, and processes that improve maintenance execution, safety, reliability, and fleet availability
  • Provide advanced technical troubleshooting support for complex mechanical, electrical, controls, and system-level issues
  • Serve as a technical bridge between Field Service and Engineering, translating field issues into engineering requirements and bringing engineering solutions into field execution
  • Identify, develop, test, and deploy specialized Field Service tooling, test equipment, fixtures, and other resources that improve safety and service efficiency
  • Lead and support special projects including fleet retrofits, service campaigns, and major maintenance initiatives
  • Analyze field failures, maintenance activities, and fleet performance data to identify recurring issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop and improve maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, work instructions, and other technical documentation
  • Collaborate with Reliability Engineering, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Safety, and Field Service leadership to resolve operational and technical issues
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Field Service Technicians and Supervisors
  • Support significant customer issues, outages, and technical events as needed
  • Travel to customer sites and be actively engaged in field activities as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of experience in Field Service, power generation, O&M, industrial maintenance, commissioning, reliability engineering, or a related technical environment
  • Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, controls, or electromechanical systems
  • Experience working directly with field technicians, maintenance personnel, or other hands-on technical teams
  • Experience developing technical procedures, maintenance programs, tooling, or field solutions
  • Strong project planning, coordination, and execution skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across technical and operational organizations
  • Willingness and ability to work hands-on with equipment in field environments and customer sites
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, Senior Field Service Technician, Commissioning Engineer, or O&M Engineer
  • Experience in power generation, distributed energy, utilities, or industrial equipment
  • Experience with generators, engines, turbines, electrical distribution systems, controls, or other complex electromechanical systems
  • Experience with field tooling or diagnostic equipment development
  • Experience with Salesforce Field Service, Quickbase, CMMS/EAM, ERP, SQL, Power BI, or similar platforms
  • Experience supporting high-visibility enterprise customers
