About the role

About Occam

Occam Industries is a British defence-tech company building hardware-agnostic autonomous AI software for military drones. Our AI pilot, OccamX, turns existing, mass-produced aerial platforms into autonomous systems: software-only, running on cheap commodity hardware, and integrating into the supply chains our customers already use.

We work directly with OEMs and defence partners to get capability to the field at speed and scale.

That work is being proven on the front line in Ukraine right now. Our team operates close to the reality of modern warfare, where security, speed, discretion and reliability are not theoretical. They are the conditions that allow the mission to stand up.

About the Role

We are looking for a Field Sales Engineer to own the preparation and delivery of customer demonstrations across Europe and other international markets. The initial focus will be on quadcopters running Occam software. You will prepare, maintain, test, repair and fly our supported demo systems, while also representing Occam credibly in conversations with OEMs, defence users and government customers. The role combines field QA, drone operations and technical sales.

Responsibilities

  • Own the readiness of Occam’s European demo fleet, including configuration, maintenance, spares, version control and pre-flight testing.
  • Build, repair, configure and fly different multirotor platforms.
  • Perform field QA on supported hardware and approved Occam software builds.
  • Diagnose and resolve common hardware, configuration and integration problems, including soldering, component replacement, calibration and reconfiguration.
  • Understand how Occam software interfaces with cameras, flight controllers, companion computers, radios and other platform components.
  • Collect logs and technical evidence when a problem requires escalation to Product or Engineering.
  • Conduct safe and reliable customer demonstrations.
  • Join customer discussions before and after demonstrations, explain the system’s capabilities and limitations, answer technical questions and capture useful feedback.
  • Support technical discovery and customer trials alongside Commercial, Product, Engineering and partner OEMs.
  • Maintain clear operating procedures and QA checklists for repeatable demonstrations.
  • Coordinate with Legal and Operations to ensure that demo equipment is transported, temporarily imported or exported, and operated in accordance with applicable export-control, customs, sanctions, dangerous-goods and aviation requirements.
  • Travel extensively, sometimes at short notice.

Qualifications

  • Practical experience building, configuring, repairing and flying quadcopters or other UAS.
  • A current EU remote-pilot qualification appropriate to the intended operations.
  • Strong field QA and systems-troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of flight controllers, ESCs, motors, cameras, radios, companion computers and onboard electronics.
  • Competence with soldering, component replacement and flight-system configuration.
  • The ability to operate independently in the field while recognising when an issue requires engineering support.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills, including the ability to explain technical systems clearly without overpromising.
  • Professional fluency in English.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Europe and internationally.

Interview process

  • After submitting the application, you will be emailed a pre-screening form to complete.
  • Typically a four stage interview process that will complete within a few weeks.
  • Offer conditional on background check by security services.

We believe the only defence technology that matters is the kind that changes outcomes on the battlefield. That means we move quickly, work pragmatically, and expect the same from you.

If you want to do something that matters, come and work with us.
