About the role

The opportunity

As a Farm Supervisor at Gatton Smart Farm, you will play a vital role in supporting innovative agricultural research that contributes to the productivity, profitability and sustainability of Queensland's primary industries. Working across a modern research facility in the Lockyer Valley, you will lead day-to-day farm operations, support research activities and contribute to the delivery of high-quality outcomes for government and industry clients.

You will:

Lead and coordinate farm operations, including land preparation, planting, irrigation, crop management, harvesting and chemical application across horticultural and broadacre research programs. Supervise, mentor and develop farm support staff while fostering a safe, collaborative and high-performing workplace. Operate, calibrate and maintain agricultural machinery, specialist research equipment and farm infrastructure to ensure research projects are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Work closely with researchers and clients to provide technical support, allocate resources and contribute to the successful delivery of agricultural research trials. Support the adoption of innovative farming technologies, including digital agriculture applications, autonomous systems and drone-enabled research activities.

What we are looking for (qualifications, registrations, experience)

There are some qualifications and requirements we see as essential. You must possess:

An Australian Diploma or Associate Diploma in Agriculture or Plant Sciences (or higher qualification in a related discipline).

A current C class driver's licence.

Experience in farming and/or horticultural crop research.

You will bring practical experience operating farm and heavy machinery, particularly GPS-enabled equipment and PTO attachments, together with strong organisational and leadership skills. Experience supporting agricultural research activities will be highly regarded.

You will be someone who builds positive working relationships, takes accountability for outcomes, demonstrates sound judgement and is committed to maintaining safe work practices. Most importantly, you will bring a passion for agriculture and a commitment to helping deliver research that makes a real difference for Queensland producers and communities.
