Position Details

Brite Divinity School, affiliated with Texas Christian University, invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track position in New Testament at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Ph.D. or equivalent in New Testament, Early Christianity, or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment. Teaching experience is preferred. The appointment will commence on August 1, 2027.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and academic writing is expected. The teaching load is four courses per year at both the master's and doctoral levels, including introductory New Testament courses. Areas of specialization within New Testament studies are open. Candidates whose expertise contributes to curricular strengths such as Pauline literature, the Gospels, the Apocalypse, early Christianity and Christian origins, biblical interpretation, and contextual hermeneutics are especially encouraged to apply.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to engage New Testament texts critically and theologically through a range of interdisciplinary and hermeneutical approaches, including historical-critical, literary, social-scientific, feminist, womanist, queer, postcolonial, racial/ethnic, and cultural studies methodologies. Brite particularly welcomes candidates whose scholarship and teaching connect New Testament studies and early Christianity with contemporary questions of ecclesial leadership, public theology, justice, theological education, and religious innovation in a rapidly changing social context.

The successful candidate will be prepared to teach both foundational and advanced courses in New Testament and Christian Origins, contribute to the broader curricular and formational mission of Brite Divinity School, and participate actively in the intellectual life of the institution. A demonstrated commitment to mentoring and supporting students, including doctoral students, is expected.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require current or future employment-based visa sponsorship.
