ANNOUNCEMENT

Faculty Appointment in Korean Studies

Stanford University seeks candidates for a faculty position in Korean Studies, with a preference for those in social science of contemporary Korea or its international relations. The successful candidate will be expected to advance research and education on Korea, in the Korea Program of the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC).

The new faculty member will be appointed as freestanding Center Fellow in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), affiliated with APARC. Center Fellows at Stanford University are typically the equivalent rank to assistant professor. They are members of the Professoriate and the Academic Council, eligible to serve as principal investigators, and accrue sabbatical. Center Fellows are appointed for a renewable fixed term of years with the possibility of review for promotion to Senior Fellow.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) at the time of the appointment and will be expected to teach and advise students at a graduate level.

Application packages should be submitted online and include the following documents: 1) a curriculum vitae with complete bibliography; 2) a research statement (up to 2 pages); 3) a statement of teaching interests (1 page); 4) up to three examples of scholarly publications; and 5) a cover letter. Candidates should also provide the names of three references, who may be contacted for this review.

The deadline for submission is November 30, 2026. Questions regarding this application may be directed to Patrick Laboon.

Center Fellow: $150,000 - $190,000

The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
