About the role

FACILITIES DIRECTOR

Mesh Optical Technologies was founded on the belief that optical photons will be at the center of advanced technologies in the coming century. Making advanced technology ubiquitous means building at scale, and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Mesh.

As we embark on this journey to operate the highest-volume optical manufacturing facility in North America, we are seeking a Facilities Director to develop efficient, safe, clean, and high-capacity production environments to support an aggressive production ramp. As Facilities Director, you will lead the strategic design, rapid implementation, and ongoing management of our facility infrastructure to support high-volume optical manufacturing. You will oversee the specification, procurement, and commissioning of critical systems—power, electrical, network, exhaust, air, and HVAC—ensuring they are built to meet the demands of our cutting-edge production line while maintaining safety, compliance, and operational excellence.

  • Lead the design and build-out of facility infrastructure, including power distribution, electrical systems, network infrastructure, exhaust systems, cleanroom air quality, and HVAC, to support high-volume optical manufacturing.
  • Manage construction activities, vendor partnerships, and overall project execution to ensure rapid deployment aligned with aggressive production ramp schedules and long-term operational objectives.
  • Ensure all facility systems and operations comply with applicable EHS/OSHA standards, fire safety codes, building regulations, insurance requirements, and environmental laws.
  • Optimize facility layout and space utilization — including equipment placement, workstations, and access control — to support efficient, large-scale manufacturing.
  • Implement data-driven facilities management systems to enhance efficiency, reduce operational costs, and promote sustainability.
  • Commission, operate, and maintain critical infrastructure systems, establishing preventative maintenance schedules and monitoring tools to ensure high uptime and compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to align facility capabilities with manufacturing equipment needs, such as die-bonding, flip-chip assembly, and automated optical inspection systems.
  • Lead root-cause investigations for facility or system downtime, driving corrective actions to minimize disruptions and optimize performance.
  • Develop and execute long-term facility expansion strategies, including identification, evaluation, and planning of new leases or acquisitions to support company growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, a related field, or extensive prior experience with exceptional performance.
  • Proven track record of overseeing facility build-outs and infrastructure upgrades for high-volume production environments.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams, vendors, and contractors.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and executive functions.
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in electrical, mechanical, or HVAC systems.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with cleanroom design and maintenance for optical or semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA systems, or IoT for facility monitoring and automation.
  • 8+ years of experience managing large-scale facilities operations, preferably in high-tech manufacturing, electronics, or optical industries.
