About the role

Our Analyst team is integral in helping the trading team make decisions, the team sits on the trading floor and helps the trading team make fast, well informed decisions. The team is passionate about stocks, stock indices, and the options trading environment, and thrive on the process of researching and predicting how equities and derivatives will react in certain scenarios and regimes. When news breaks, a stock gaps or volatility spikes, you'll be the one the desk turns to for the "why" and the "what next".

We're seeking an Equity Analyst with a trader's instincts to join the team, preferably with experience covering Hong Kong and China equities. Your input will directly shape the positions we put on and how we manage risk around market events, often within minutes rather than weeks.

Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Share responsibility for covering a universe of around 100 large- and mid-cap stocks listed in Hong Kong.
  • Monitor news flow across your coverage in real time: corporate, industry, regulatory, policy and macro developments. Quickly assess what matters, what's priced in and how the market is likely to react.
  • Identify what's driving price and volatility moves, whether that's earnings, flows, policy headlines, positioning or sentiment. Explain it clearly to the trading desk.
  • Generate short-term trading ideas based on expected volatility and direction, and work closely with the options traders to execute them.
  • Anticipate, monitor and evaluate upcoming catalysts, including earnings, dividends, corporate actions, index events and special situations. Help the desk prepare for them before they happen.
  • Build and maintain a working knowledge of your stocks and their peers, so you can form a view quickly when events hit.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as an Equity Analyst in sell-side or buy-side equity research.
  • A strong sense of urgency and the ability to form clear, actionable views quickly, often with incomplete information.
  • A demonstrated passion for markets and an instinct for what's moving them day to day.
  • Comfort in a fast-moving, high-pressure, competitive trading environment.
  • Able to combine quantitative data with qualitative insight to reach a conclusion fast.
  • Fluent in English, written and spoken. Mandarin fluency is a plus.
  • Derivatives and/or structured products experience is advantageous.
  • Tertiary qualified. CFA is a plus.
  • Bloomberg and Python experience preferred.
