About the role

Temporary appointments are available at various Principal levels (3-10), with salaries shown reflecting 1.0 FTE.

About the Region

The North Queensland Region spans a vast and diverse landscape, from the spectacular Whitsunday Island group, north to the tropical Hinchinbrook hub of Ingham, west through the outback and Mount Isa to the Northern Territory border, and north-west to the glorious Gulf of Carpentaria.

  • The diversity of schools in our region provides opportunities for professional leadership experiences, growth, and personal development in locations that boast a relaxed lifestyle and serve as gateways to explore the beauty of our tropics and outback.
  • Applicants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the region and individual schools before applying, including through:
  • the Department of Education Schools Directory and the Teach Queensland website
  • the Choose your Teaching Adventure Booklet
  • individual school and local council websites.

Participating in the Pool

This continuous applicant pool provides opportunities for relieving Principal roles in the North Queensland Region during 2026. Applicants must meet the requirements outlined in the attached role description.

  • Applicants are encouraged to discuss their application with their current Supervisor to confirm support, capacity to release, and the appropriateness of the nominated classification level. Approval for release from the substantive position is required before any offer is made.
  • Applying to this pool does not guarantee an offer of employment or assessment feedback. The region will actively review applications throughout 2026 as temporary vacancies arise. The region may also progress separate EOIs for individual vacancies when considered necessary.
  • Applicants are encouraged to keep their application up to date throughout the year to ensure recent experience, skills and achievements are showcased. Applicants should also ensure line manager approval remains current should a vacancy arise, supporting transparency and alignment with departmental protocols.

How to Apply

  • Attach a brief resume (3-page maximum) including contact details for 2 referees (one of whom should be your current supervisor).
  • Attach a written response (2-page maximum) to the How you will be Assessed section of the attached role description.
  • Attach a signed and completed copy of the Supervisor Endorsement page.
  • Complete the online Questionnaire (the questionnaire will open after you have clicked Apply online and entered your personal details).

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
