About the Roles

Deakin Practice Education Facilitator (DPEF)

The DPEF provides key liaison and support between students, Practice Educators/Supervisors and the University to promote positive, well-coordinated practice education experiences. The role may facilitate pre-placement orientation, establish early contact with students and supervisors, and maintain regular communication throughout placement to respond to queries, monitor placement arrangements and support emerging needs.

The DPEF reviews student Learning Access Plans, provides guidance on performance-enhancing strategies, and may facilitate site visits where additional support is required. For students with a Learning Access Plan, reasonable adjustments or cultural considerations, the DPEF supports pre-placement planning with students and placement providers and escalates concerns where appropriate.

The role also monitors Practice Education documentation and SPEF processes, supports accurate placement records, and coordinates placement changes or make-up days with relevant stakeholders. Following placement, the DPEF facilitates student reflection and debriefing as required. Overall, the role promotes early, active support, student development, effective problem-solving, placement quality and collaborative partnerships with practice education providers.

Long Arm Clinical Educator/Supervisor

The Clinical Educator/Supervisor supports students to integrate theory with practice and develop their professional capabilities and identity as emerging occupational therapists. The role provides clinical and professional supervision to students undertaking university-supported community-based practice education placements in organisations, such as schools or community agencies, where an occupational therapist is not employed.

Working through a long-arm supervision model, the Clinical Educator/Supervisor collaborates with students, agency contacts and the Unit Chair to facilitate high-quality learning and successful placement outcomes. The role provides regular face-to-face supervision at placement sites and maintains effective communication with key stakeholders. Responsibilities include participating in pre-placement educator workshops and student orientation, reviewing Learning Access Plans, practice documentation, clinical reasoning, reports and resources, and providing timely, strengths-focused feedback to support student development and performance.

The Clinical Educator/Supervisor evaluates student performance using the SPEF-R2 at midpoint and final assessment and identifies and responds to emerging performance concerns. Overall, the Clinical Educator/Supervisor promotes high-quality supervision, student development, collaborative relationships and positive practice education outcomes.

To be successful, you'll have

  • Current registration with Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
  • At least 3 years' experience as an occupational therapist in practice
  • This role requires the incumbent to apply for and maintain a Working with Children Check.

Applications for this position close on December 7, 2026. Please submit your updated resume and a one-page cover letter outlining your experience of student supervision, which role/s you are interested in, and the geographical location you can cover.
