Title: Engineering Technician - Manufacturing

Location: Austin, Texas

About Us

Contoro Robotics is building the next generation of intelligent robotic systems. Based in Austin, TX, we design and manufacture advanced robots for industrial automation. We’re a fast-paced, hands-on team that thrives on solving hard engineering problems and bringing hardware to life.

About the Role

We're looking for a skilled Engineering Technician to support the assembly, configuration, commissioning, and testing of our robotic systems. This role involves an equal balance of hands-on mechanical and electrical assembly and system commissioning.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, and software systems. You'll collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure every robot is properly assembled, tested, and ready for deployment.

Job Responsibilities

Mechanical & Electrical Assembly

  • Assemble robotic systems, including drive systems, pneumatic systems, conveyors, robotic arms, and other electromechanical components.
  • Build and wire electrical panels, route cables and pneumatic lines, and verify connections according to engineering specifications.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, and assembly instructions to ensure accurate assembly.
  • Operate shop equipment, hand tools, and electrical test equipment to assemble, inspect, and troubleshoot robotic systems.

System Configuration, Commissioning & Testing

  • Configure and commission robotic systems, including industrial computers, PLCs, motor controllers, sensors, cameras, LiDAR, and networking equipment.
  • Work within Linux environments to navigate file systems, execute terminal commands, install software dependencies, and perform system configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Clone, download, and update software repositories using Git and follow documented procedures for software installation, deployment, and configuration.
  • Configure network settings, device communication, and system parameters to ensure proper integration of hardware and software components.
  • Execute subsystem verification, automated test procedures, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to validate complete robotic system functionality and readiness for deployment.
  • Run automated test scripts, diagnostic tools, and established test procedures to verify system functionality and identify issues.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, networking, and software-related issues using diagnostic tools, system logs, and engineering documentation.
  • Document test results, identify nonconformances, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve issues prior to final acceptance.

General Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of assigned robotic systems from initial assembly through final commissioning and acceptance testing.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing, configuration, and testing records while following established safety and quality procedures.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing processes.

Qualification & Requirements

Required

  • Associate's degree in engineering technology, mechatronics, robotics, manufacturing technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in electromechanical assembly, manufacturing, industrial automation, or robotic system integration.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical assembly skills, including wiring, troubleshooting, and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems, including command-line navigation, file management, and execution of scripts.
  • Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot integrated hardware and software systems.
  • Basic understanding of computer networking, including IP addressing and Ethernet communication.
  • Experience executing technical test procedures, diagnosing failures, and documenting results.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, electrical test equipment, and common shop equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or collaboratively.

Preferred

  • Experience commissioning robotic systems, industrial machinery, or automated equipment.
  • Experience with Pytho, or automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience configuring PLCs, industrial computers, motor controllers, cameras, LiDAR, and other robotic sensors.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, GitLab, or similar software repository management platforms.
  • Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) or manufacturing validation procedures.
  • Familiarity with mechanical CAD software, preferably SOLIDWORKS.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols and troubleshooting networked control systems.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and equity options.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, vision, dental, and 401(k) plans.
  • A vibrant and dynamic work environment where your contributions directly impact the company's success.
  • Opportunities for professional growth in a fast-paced startup setting.
