Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director, PEALD Technology to lead PEALD technology development and strategic customer engagement. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant technical influence, connecting emerging customer needs with ASM’s product and technology roadmap. You will drive strategic initiatives across PEALD and dielectric technologies, from early-stage evaluation and NPI through qualification and deployment, working closely with customer advanced development teams and ASM’s global organizations.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in PEALD, dielectric thin films, and semiconductor deposition technologies, combined with strong customer engagement, technical leadership, and the ability to translate emerging technology requirements into actionable technology roadmaps and business opportunities.

**Relocation support is available for qualified international candidates moving to Taiwan.

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify and drive technology inflections that support ASM’s mid- and long-term PEALD strategy.
  • Serve as a trusted technical leader and key technical interface for customers, engaging directly with advanced development and engineering teams.
  • Drive and support NPI activities, including early-stage evaluations, demos, system qualification, and system matching to meet customer performance requirements.
  • Understand current and emerging customer requirements related to dielectric materials, thin-film deposition, and PEALD technologies, while anticipating future technology needs and opportunities.
  • Act as a technical voice of the customer, translating customer challenges and technology trends into actionable recommendations for product and technology roadmaps.
  • Lead technical discussions to address complex thin-film deposition, material, process, and integration challenges and improve overall technology performance.
  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps, technical strategies, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate multi-site, global customer projects that demonstrate ASM’s technical capabilities, build customer trust, and support new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate across Product Development, Product Marketing, Service Engineering, and Operations to drive alignment and deliver successful customer outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership across global, cross-functional teams while promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration.

What we’re looking for

  • Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of semiconductor industry experience, with strong expertise in PEALD, ALD, dielectric thin-film deposition, or related deposition technologies.
  • Deep technical knowledge of dielectric materials and PEALD-related process technologies, including the relationship between materials, process conditions, film properties, and device/application requirements.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor fabrication, thin-film deposition, process integration, materials, chemistry, and plasma-related processes.
  • Experience supporting advanced semiconductor applications, or emerging device technologies is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience in NPI, technology qualification, process development, or complex technical programs.
  • Strong track record of engaging with customers on development-stage technologies and translating technical requirements into product or technology roadmaps.
  • Proven technical leadership with the ability to influence, align, and drive cross-functional teams in a global matrixed organization.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate complex technical insights into clear roadmaps, decisions, and business impact.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams and senior stakeholders.

Why join ASM as Director, PEALD Technology

  • Work directly with senior technical leadership and Business Units to influence technology priorities, shape product roadmaps, and help define future business direction.
  • Work directly on emerging customer technology requirements and influence future product and PEALD technology roadmaps.
  • Lead high-impact programs from early technology evaluation through customer qualification and deployment.
  • Collaborate with global technical experts, product organizations, and leading semiconductor customers.
  • Take on a highly visible individual contributor technical leadership role with significant ownership, influence, and business impact.
