About the role

ABOUT US

Insomnia Cookies was founded in a college dorm room by then-student, Seth Berkowitz. Fast forward 20 years and so... many....cookies... later, our innovative bakery + delivery concept has become a cult brand known for its rabid following of cookie lovers who crave Insomnia’s warm, delicious delivery all day and late into the night.

Today, Insomnia Cookies spans more than 350 bakeries worldwide and proudly headquartered in NYC. As we continue to grow our footprint and bring warm cookies to new communities across the globe, Insomnia Cookies is revolutionizing the cookie game by truly imagining what’s possible.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Treasury is the day-one priority. You’ll take the keys to our liquidity forecasting, banking infrastructure and lender relationships, then build a scalable tax function underneath. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can model a 13-week cash flow in the morning, walk a lender through covenant headroom after lunch, and untangle a composite return before the late-night cookie rush. You’ll partner daily with the CFO, Controller, FP&A, Operations, Growth and our external advisors.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Treasury: Keeping the Dough Rising (Day-One Priority)

  • Own the 13-week cash flow end to end. Build and maintain a driver-based weekly forecast. Gather and validate cash inputs from AP, payroll, rent, new-bakery construction, capex, debt service and bakery receipts. Deliver weekly actual-vs-forecast variance analysis with a clear “why” behind every material swing.
  • Daily cash positioning and liquidity management across a 350+ bakery footprint, including depository concentration, sweeps, minimum-liquidity targets and intercompany funding.
  • Receipts integrity. Make sure card-processor, third-party delivery, e-commerce, gifting and catering settlements land on time and in full. Reconcile them and chase breaks. Benchmark and negotiate processing fees.
  • Debt advisory and lender relationship management. Be a trusted counterpart to our bank group. Prepare lender reporting packages, covenant compliance calculations and compliance certificates. Manage debt draws and repayments, and model covenant headroom under multiple scenarios.
  • Capital structure support. Partner with the CFO on financing initiatives, interest-rate risk and hedging strategy, and debt-capacity analysis for growth.
  • Bank administration and execution. Open and close accounts as bakeries open and close. Handle KYC and documentation, signatory and authorization matrices, online-banking entitlements and wire and ACH execution. Run payment-fraud controls such as positive pay, ACH blocks and callback protocols.
  • Bank fee and relationship optimization. Review account analysis statements, rationalize the account structure and run banking RFPs when warranted.
  • Policy and automation. Write and maintain cash management and investment policies. Drive treasury automation within our ERP and banking platforms. Manage CAD/GBP cash needs for our Canadian and UK bakeries.

Tax: Rendering Unto Caesar (and Every State, City & Province)

  • Partnership compliance. Own the Form 1065 process, K-1s, composite returns and nonresident withholding. Evaluate PTET elections, and calculate partner tax distributions under our LLC agreement.
  • Federal, state and local income and franchise taxes. Cover apportionment, nexus monitoring as we enter new markets, and city-level business privilege and gross receipts taxes. Examples include Philadelphia BIRT/NPT, NYC UBT, Texas margin tax and Washington B&O.
  • Sales and use tax management. Handle monthly returns across hundreds of jurisdictions and registrations for every new bakery. Address the taxability of delivery fees, gift cards and catering, marketplace-facilitator rules with delivery partners, and audit defense.
  • Personal property tax. File annual returns and renditions for bakery equipment and leasehold improvements, and pursue assessment appeals where the numbers don’t add up.
  • The stuff that falls through cracks. Own unclaimed property and escheat (especially gift cards), 1099 compliance, business license renewals and a master tax calendar so nothing is ever late.
  • Advisor management and planning. Direct outside tax advisors and manage notices and audits. Support tax accruals in the monthly close, and advise on entity structure and new-market expansion.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA and/or CTP strongly preferred, and an MBA is a plus.
  • 10+ years of progressive treasury and tax experience, ideally combining public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) with industry leadership.
  • Multi-unit restaurant, retail or consumer experience strongly preferred. You know what high-volume, low-ticket, many-location cash looks like.
  • You’ve built and owned a 13-week cash flow in a lender-reported environment and lived through covenant compliance, credit agreement mechanics and lender diligence.
  • Hands-on partnership tax (1065) experience, including composite returns and K-1s.
  • Multi-state sales and use tax experience at scale. Familiarity with Avalara or Vertex is a plus, and exposure to Canadian GST/HST or UK VAT is a bonus.
  • Experience in a sponsor- or investor-backed company, and with financing or refinancing transactions, is a strong plus.
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills. Experience with Workday ERP and treasury or banking platforms is a plus.
  • You’re a builder and player-coach who’s equally comfortable designing the process and running it, and you can tell the story behind the numbers to a CFO, a board or a bank.
  • You’re comfortable in a fast-moving environment with tight timelines, iteration and a results-driven mindset.

SWEET POSITION PERKS

  • A highly visible role reporting directly to the CFO, where your work moves the business from day one.
  • Competitive salary + bonus + benefits + equity.
  • A fun, entrepreneurial, cookie-filled culture.
  • Free cookies, branded swag and so much more!

This is an onsite role with WFH Fridays!!
