About the role

About us

Causaly is redefining how humans acquire knowledge and develop insights in biomedicine. Our AI-powered platform enables researchers and decision-makers to discover and interpret evidence from millions of scientific publications, clinical trials, regulatory documents, and other complex data sources in minutes.

We are building the world’s most advanced biomedical knowledge platform, powered by a high-precision Knowledge Graph and GenAI capabilities. Our technology is already used by leading biopharmaceutical organizations to accelerate drug discovery, improve safety, and drive better decision-making.

Backed by top-tier investors including ICONIQ, Index Ventures, Pentech, and Marathon, we are scaling rapidly and expanding our product suite and market presence.

About the Role

We are hiring a Director of People to take full ownership of People Operations and Employee Experience at Causaly, for 100 to 125 people across the UK, Greece, the US and other European countries, including remote employees through employer-of-record providers. You will run contracts, payroll, benefits, compliance, HR systems and employee relations, and shape how people experience working here from day one.

You will lead and develop a team of two People Operations Associates, 1x in London and 1x in Athens, and work closely with our leadership team and Finance, with the autonomy to set priorities and the accountability to deliver them. This role does not currently include Talent Acquisition, which sits in a separate team.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the People Operations roadmap and the full employee lifecycle, from contracts and onboarding to offboarding, including contractors and third-party suppliers.
  • Work closely with our Senior Talent Partner on hiring, offers and onboarding.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits across our UK, Greece and US entities with Finance, and manage our employer-of-record providers for remote employees.
  • Own employment law compliance in every country we operate in, including right to work and visas, and keep our policies, handbooks and contracts current, with our General Counsel and local advisers.
  • Own our HRIS and People data, keep it accurate and compliant, and produce reporting leaders can act on.
  • Manage employee relations cases end to end, including investigations, grievances and exits, with our General Counsel and external counsel, and coach managers through difficult conversations.
  • Lead our compensation review and performance and development (P&D) cycles end to end, working with Finance and leadership.
  • Own learning and development, including our development budget and programmes for managers and teams.
  • Partner with the Finance Director and COO on People strategy and workforce planning as we grow.
  • Shape the employee experience across all locations and for remote colleagues, including engagement surveys, communications, wellbeing and office culture.
  • Own our London, Athens and New York offices and facilities, setting standards and managing landlords, suppliers, budget and health and safety, with your team covering London and Athens, local providers covering New York, and you hands-on where it matters.
  • Use AI and automation to remove manual work from People processes, and put the right tools in place.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience leading People Operations at Head of level, or equivalent, in a venture-backed tech or SaaS scale-up, ideally of 100 to 300 people.
  • Hands-on payroll and benefits experience across the UK, US and other European countries, including through employer-of-record providers, and owning an HRIS, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong UK employment law knowledge and experience supporting employees in another country.
  • Sound judgement and discretion on complex employee relations matters.
  • Credibility and communication skills to influence senior leaders and managers.
  • Confidence with data, reporting and budget conversations with Finance.
  • Experience managing a small team, ideally including someone based in another country.
  • A pragmatic, low-ego operator who enjoys building process and getting into the detail.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Greek or wider EU employment practices; CIPD Level 7 or an equivalent qualification.
