About the role

At Liberis, our mission is to empower small and medium-sized businesses by removing finance as a friction to growth, delivering contextual, embedded financial solutions to support merchants at every stage of their business lifecycle.

The team

The Business Development team identifies and secures new enterprise partnerships that drive Liberis' growth. We work with marketplaces, eCommerce platforms, ISVs, payment providers and logistics networks to build compelling propositions, agree sustainable commercial terms and lay the foundations for successful launches.

We work closely with colleagues across Commercial, Product, Technology, Operations, Finance, Legal and Risk to turn opportunities into commercially valuable partnerships.

The role

We are looking for a Director of Business Development to originate and close enterprise embedded finance partnerships, owning some of our largest and most complex opportunities across marketplaces, eCommerce, ISVs, payments and shipping/logistics.

You will build a strong pipeline and convert it into partnerships that deliver sustainable, profitable growth. You will draw on your existing network and track record of launching embedded lending, banking and payments programs to open doors with senior decision-makers, shape where we focus and lead complex negotiations through to signed agreement.

This is a senior individual contributor role. You will work closely with a Business Development Manager to manage deals from first meeting through to launch, combining strategic judgement with hands-on ownership of deals, working independently and bringing colleagues together to build compelling propositions and secure successful outcomes.

Your responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritise strategic embedded finance opportunities across partner types (marketplaces, eCommerce platforms, ISVs, payment providers, shipping and logistics), verticals and markets.
  • Build and manage your own pipeline, with accountability for acquisition targets and the commercial value of new agreements.
  • Personally originate and lead major enterprise opportunities, from initial engagement through to signed agreement, tapping your existing network of senior contacts.
  • Build trusted relationships with executive stakeholders and navigate complex partner organisations, including product, payments, risk, legal and finance teams.
  • Shape partnership propositions for embedded lending, banking and payments that address partner priorities, meet merchant needs and create attractive economics for Liberis.
  • Develop high-quality presentations, proposals and commercial models that support partner decisions.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, balancing growth potential, profitability, delivery requirements and risk.
  • Secure internal alignment for opportunities, present clear business cases and resolve barriers to progress.
  • Maintain reliable forecasts and give senior leadership a clear view of deal progress, key decisions and risks.
  • Work with implementation and partner management teams to ensure agreed commitments are achievable and partnerships are set up to deliver.
  • Bring market and partner insight into decisions on product development, competitive positioning and expansion.
  • Contribute to best practice across Business Development through your experience, insight and approach to complex deals.
  • Represent Liberis at industry events and develop relationships that create new commercial opportunities.

What we are looking for

Experience

  • 10 or more years in enterprise sales, business development or strategic partnerships, with a significant portion selling embedded lending, banking or payments solutions to enterprise platforms.
  • A proven record of originating and closing embedded finance programs: signed clients or partnerships you have personally secured, with measurable commercial results.
  • A strong track record of personally securing substantial B2B partnerships involving complex negotiations and multiple decision-makers.
  • Experience independently managing long enterprise deal cycles, from origination through to commercial agreement and launch.

Network and market knowledge

  • An established network of senior contacts across marketplaces, eCommerce platforms, ISVs, payment providers (PSPs, acquirers, processors) and/or shipping and logistics companies, with the ability to open executive-level conversations.
  • A strong understanding of fintech, payments, SaaS and embedded finance, and how platforms monetise and serve small businesses.

Commercial and influencing skills

  • Confidence assessing commercial models (revenue share, referral and funding economics), challenging assumptions and translating opportunities into credible business cases.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders internally and externally, including executives at large organisations.

Nice to have

  • Experience in small business lending, merchant cash advance or revenue-based financing.
  • Familiarity with API and platform integrations, and with the regulatory and risk considerations of offering financial products through a partner.

And there’s plenty more! Enjoy 25 days’ PTO, competitive healthcare benefits and up to 60 days per year working from anywhere. Apply to discover the full benefits package and what life at Liberis has to offer.

Think this sounds like the right next move for you? Or if you’re not completely confident that you fit our exact criteria, apply anyway and we can arrange a call to see if the role is fit for you. Humility is a wonderful thing, and we are interested in hearing about what you can add to Liberis!
