About the role

About the role

As Digital Systems and Data Specialist you will lead the digital transformation across the Waste and Resource Recovery Business Unit. You’ll design, build and continuously improve modern digital systems, reporting and automation that underpin Tasmania’s Waste Data Strategy.

Working within the Business Improvement, Data and Systems Branch, you’ll partner closely with operational teams and ICT to modernise how data is collected, managed and used. Leveraging Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft products, you’ll streamline workflows, improve data integrity and deliver transparent, future‑ready systems that support evidence‑based decision‑making at all levels, including senior leaders, the Board and the Minister.

This is a hands‑on specialist role with real impact, combining solution design, data analytics, stakeholder engagement and capability building.

This is a permanent position working 73.5 hours per fortnight (or minimum 58.8 hours by negotiation), and can be based in Hobart or Launceston.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Significant expertise in Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft products, with experience designing secure, scalable business solutions.
  • Strong data modelling, analytical and dashboard development skills using Power BI.
  • Demonstrated capability in business analysis, system design and working with cloud-based or API-first solutions.
  • High-level communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong conceptual thinking, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Experience supporting digital or data transformation in government or large organisations, along with relevant qualifications or Microsoft certifications, will be highly regarded.

We offer

  • A meaningful opportunity to shape Tasmania’s circular economy through modern digital and data solutions.
  • A forward‑thinking, supportive team environment committed to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Professional growth and development, including exposure to complex digital projects, modern Microsoft technologies and capability‑building opportunities.
  • Generous leave entitlements, a competitive salary and flexible work options.
