About the role

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cyber Security Analyst to join our Chief Information Office within the Customer & Performance Directorate at Knox City Council.

As our Cyber Security Analyst, you will play a critical role in protecting Council’s data, infrastructure, applications and platforms. This is a hands-on technical role where you will support and strengthen our cyber security systems, investigate and respond to security incidents, identify vulnerabilities and drive continuous improvement across Council’s cyber security posture.

Working closely with the Head of Cyber Security & Assurance, Technical Services and project teams, you will provide specialist advice, help implement effective security controls and ensure cyber security risks are identified and managed throughout the project lifecycle. You will also contribute to security audits, compliance monitoring, third-party risk management and initiatives that build cyber security awareness across Council.

This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise and investigative skills to meaningful work that protects Council’s information and supports the delivery of services to our community.

This is a full-time permanent role based at Knox City Council Civic Centre in Wantirna South. We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs are met.

This is a Band 7 classified role. Remuneration will be $115,162.08 to $129,157.23 per annum (depending on experience, pro-rata for part-time) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.

What you will bring to this role

The key selection criteria for this role are:

  • Relevant qualifications in cyber security or a related discipline, with several years of relevant experience, or extensive relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in networking, cloud technologies and infrastructure design, including the implementation and support of cyber security controls.
  • Demonstrated experience working with enterprise cyber security technologies, such as endpoint security, email and web security, vulnerability management, firewalls, networking, application gateways, mobile device management and security information and event management systems.
  • Strong technical and investigative skills, with the ability to identify security vulnerabilities, assess risks and recommend practical solutions across information systems, networks and security tooling.
  • Demonstrated understanding of cyber security frameworks and standards, including ASD Essentials(Essential Eight), NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0 and ISO 27001, and the ability to apply relevant controls and best practice.
  • Well-developed communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, project stakeholders and external providers to manage incidents, improve security and support compliance.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ISC2, CompTIA) are advantageous.
