About the role

Credentialed Veterinary Technician

Brewer Veterinary Clinic | Brewer, Maine

$23–$28/hour, based on experience

You worked hard for your credential. We want you to use it.

At Brewer Veterinary Clinic, our veterinary technicians aren’t limited to the sidelines. They are an essential part of how we practice medicine.

We’re a busy, established small animal hospital looking for a Credentialed Veterinary Technician who wants to be hands-on, trusted, and fully involved in patient care. Our technicians are utilized to the top of their skill set—from anesthesia and dentistry to diagnostics, surgery, hospitalized patient care, and everything in between.

And if there are skills you haven’t mastered yet? We’ll help you get there.

Whether you’re an experienced technician looking for more autonomy or a newly credentialed technician ready to build confidence with a supportive team, we’d like to meet you.

Why Brewer?

No regular weekend shifts.

Beginning in October, our regular hospital schedule is Monday through Friday.

A schedule that can actually work for you.

Many of our full-time team members work a four-day schedule, while others prefer five shorter days. We’re open to discussing what works with both your needs and the needs of the hospital.

Use your technical skills.

Our technicians are an integral part of patient care and are encouraged to work independently within their training and scope.

Interesting medicine without leaving general practice.

We see routine wellness appointments, but we also handle a high volume of sick and urgent cases and perform a wide range of procedures. If you like variety and days that move quickly, you’ll find it here.

A team with staying power.

More than half of our current team has been with Brewer for 10+ years. We’ve experienced changes over the last year and are actively rebuilding and growing, with a strong focus on finding people who work well together—not simply filling an open position.

We’re willing to teach.

You don’t need to walk in knowing everything. New graduates are welcome. If you have the right foundation, curiosity, and willingness to learn, our team is comfortable helping you develop your skills and confidence.

What You’ll Get to Do

Depending on your experience and comfort level, you’ll have opportunities to work with:

  • Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Surgical preparation and assistance
  • Dental procedures and dental radiography
  • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
  • Digital radiography
  • Ultrasound and diagnostic imaging support
  • Endoscopy
  • In-house and reference laboratory diagnostics
  • Medication administration
  • Patient assessments and triage
  • Hospitalized and sick patient care
  • Client communication and education
  • Compassionate patient handling
  • Routine wellness and preventative care

Our doctors perform a broad range of procedures, including routine surgery as well as more involved soft-tissue procedures such as exploratory surgeries, splenectomies, and C-sections. We also work with a specialty surgeon when orthopedic procedures are needed.

The Kind of Technician Who Does Well Here

Brewer is a high-volume, fast-moving hospital. We like staying busy, helping each other, and getting things done.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Want to be an active participant in medicine rather than simply assisting from the sidelines
  • Enjoy a busy environment where no two days are exactly alike
  • Are dependable and comfortable communicating with both clients and teammates
  • Value teamwork and are willing to jump in when someone needs help
  • Want to continue learning and developing your technical skills
  • Can adapt when the day doesn’t go exactly according to plan
  • Care as much about being a good teammate as you do about being technically skilled

Skills matter here—but team fit matters too. Our interview process includes time with the hospital team so that both you and Brewer can decide whether it feels like the right match.
