About the role

At Crooked, we believe the answer to a rising authoritarian movement is a democratic movement powerful enough to fight it and (fingers crossed) defeat it. That means using all the tools at our disposal as a media company to help build a massive, diverse coalition united behind a core set of democratic values: freedom, equality, compassion, and the rule of law.

  • Marketing: Work with the marketing team to write and punch up copy related to any and all promo materials used to promote our brand, content and our efforts across ecommerce, subscription community and our live tour and events (ad/promo copy, scripts for host-read “housekeeping” in pod episodes and across cross-promoted podcasts, occasional website copy, campaign tagline and copy, press materials and other marketing materials, as needed)
  • Ads: Punch up, proof and copy edit ad copy for host-read sponsorships and ads in host-forward tone of voice.
  • Social: Work with social team on occasional social post copy and occasional script-writing for original social content like video explainers and other original content series.
  • Creative Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Comedy Corner, our in-house comedy writers as needed, to get feedback on ideas, to punch up other ideas and have your work critiqued and punched up.
  • Training and mentoring news staff in Crooked tone and humor.

What You’ll Bring To The Table

  • A track record and work samples that demonstrate an ability to capture a brand’s tone of voice and apply across different media and communications
  • A clear idea of the Crooked brand and an intuitive grasp on where our tone should and can shift with the cultural and political climate
  • 1-3 years of experience copywriting for brands or across agency clients with strong, distinct consumer-facing tone of voice. Bonus points for demonstrated comedy and pro-social experience
  • Fluency and comfort with common formats, terminology and workflows related to marketing, sponsorship, social and e-commerce
  • Ability to communicate and pitch your ideas to stakeholders when needed, talk through feedback and work through creative in real time
  • Strong communication and organizational and proofreading skills
  • A passion for comedy, pop culture and politics and an understanding of audiences who have the same interests
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once
  • A self-motivated, proactive, creative, accountable, and collaborative attitude
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our coverage & workplace
