About the role

Backed by leading Silicon Valley investors, Peregrine helps public safety organizations, state and local and governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions address society’s challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Our AI-enabled platform turns siloed and disconnected data into operational intelligence — instantly surfacing mission-critical information to empower better, faster decisions that improve outcomes at every touchpoint. Today Peregrine supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people — and we’re amplifying our impact as we expand into the enterprise and internationally.

We are a team of public service entrepreneurs who are passionate about solving hard problems. We trust and help each other, and believe empathy, curiosity, integrity, courage, and excellent execution are key to building impactful software. If mission-focused work is your north star, come build with us.

The Role

We’re hiring a Commercial Counsel to join Peregrine’s legal team. This role will report to Peregrine’s Associate General Counsel and will wear a number of hats on the team and gain exposure to the full spectrum of in-house practice at a fast-scaling technology company. This role will support commercial contracts across the business but will also help advise on corporate, compliance, privacy, IP, and legal operations questions in partnership with the in-house legal team and cross-functional stakeholders.

You will work day-to-day with Sales, Finance, Contracts, Customer Delivery, Marketing, and a number of other departments within the company. The role suits a commercial contracts attorney who learns quickly, is adaptable, and is interested in broadening their skills as an in-house generalist.

What You’ll Do

  • Draft, review, and negotiate the agreements behind our sales, partnerships, and customer delivery, as well as the software and services that support the business, including technology licensing, software, vendor, reseller, strategic partnership, and data sharing agreements.
  • Provide practical advice to business teams on IP, data privacy, security, AI, and software licensing questions relating to Peregrine’s business and operations.
  • Review marketing collateral and marketing-related agreements, such as agency, sponsorship, and event contracts.
  • Work with Legal Operations and Contracts to build and evolve playbooks, templates, and policies to scale with the business.
  • Monitor and educate business stakeholders on changes in the laws and regulations that affect Peregrine’s business.
  • Triage and counsel stakeholders on ad hoc legal, compliance, and operational matters as they arise, and over time build depth in the areas most relevant to Peregrine’s business.

What We Look For

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 4+ years of experience in commercial/transactional legal work.
  • Experience with technology transactions or general commercial contracting preferred (SaaS agreements, licensing, vendor contracts, or similar).
  • Curiosity about new areas of legal practice and a desire to broaden your skill set to operate across the business.
  • Sound commercial judgment, and the ability to explain legal risk to non-lawyers in plain terms.
  • A clear, low-ego, collaborative communicator and team player.

Location: San Francisco, New York City, or Washington, D.C. Employees in this role are expected to be in the office 4 days per week.

Annual Salary + Benefits + Equity (if applicable) + Bonus (if applicable)
