About the role

Location: Metro Competitions Headquarters, Derry Street, HSK, London, W8 5HY

Position: 12-month FTC, Full time/Hybrid – 4 days in office 1-day WFH.

About Us

Metro is the UK’s highest-circulation newspaper. Published on weekdays, it is freely distributed in public transport networks and urban hubs across Great Britain. Alongside metro.co.uk, the Metro brand reaches over 5m adults daily and 20m each month.

Metro Competitions is a new online prize-draw business offering customers the chance to win cash, tech, holidays, watches and other high-value prizes from just 10p.

Launched in partnership with Flutter Entertainment, Metro Competitions combines the strength and reach of the Metro brand with Flutter’s established prize-draw platform, providing a strong foundation for growth in the UK’s rapidly growing £1.4bn prize-draw market.

About the role

We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded individual to take day-to-day ownership of Metro Competitions and help drive its growth.

Working closely with teams across Metro and Flutter Entertainment, you'll be responsible for driving the commercial performance of the business, planning and delivering marketing activity, and identifying opportunities to attract and engage customers.

This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can combine commercial thinking with strong relationship management and the ability to get things done. You'll need to be confident working with people across editorial, commercial, marketing and senior management, able to build relationships, influence decisions and ensure activity gets delivered.

This is initially a 12-month fixed-term contract with the potential to convert into a permanent position, subject to the ongoing success and scope of the initiative.

Person Specification

Commercial Performance and Growth

  • Take day-to-day ownership of Metro Competitions, with a focus on driving revenue, customer acquisition and engagement.
  • Monitor and analyse key performance metrics, identifying trends, opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Work with Flutter to review competition performance, promotional effectiveness and opportunities to optimise the proposition.
  • Develop and maintain commercial performance reports, providing regular updates and recommendations to senior management.

Marketing and Promotion

  • Develop and manage the promotional calendar across Metro's digital, print, editorial and social platforms.
  • Work closely with internal teams to identify and deliver opportunities to promote Metro Competitions across the brand’s audience, content and channels.
  • Review campaign performance and use insights to inform future activity.

Partnership and Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary day-to-day contact for Flutter, building a strong and productive working relationship.
  • Coordinate activity across Metro's editorial, commercial and marketing teams.
  • Build relationships and influence stakeholders to secure support, prioritise activity and ensure campaigns are delivered effectively.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues, keeping projects on track.

Product and Prize Development

  • Work with Flutter to develop and launch Metro-exclusive competitions and compelling prizes.
  • Identify prize opportunities, promotional themes and partnerships that resonate with Metro's audience.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends, helping ensure the business remains relevant and competitive.
  • Contribute to improvements in the customer experience, website presentation and overall proposition.

Person Specification

  • Experience in a commercially focused marketing, ecommerce, digital media or consumer-facing role.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to understand performance data, identify opportunities and make practical recommendations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage and influence colleagues at all levels.
  • A proactive, resourceful and hands-on approach, with the ability to take ownership and deliver results.
  • Experience developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with external partners and cross-functional teams.
  • Good analytical skills, including proficiency with Excel.
  • Experience in prize draws, competitions, gaming, ecommerce or digital consumer businesses would be advantageous but is not essential.
