About the role

About Us

Here at Ambience, we never set out to be just another scribe. We’re building the AI intelligence platform that restores humanity to healthcare and drives meaningful ROI for health systems across the country.

Our technology helps providers focus on delivering great care by removing the administrative burden that pulls them away from patients and away from their most impactful work. Ambience delivers real-time coding-aware documentation and clinical workflow support across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient settings at the top health systems in North America.

Our teams operate relentlessly with extreme ownership to build the best solutions for our health system partners. We value candor, positivity and deep thought — and we expect a lot from each other because we know the problems we’re solving truly matter.

Ambience was ranked #1 for Improving the Clinician Experience in the KLAS Research Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, recognized by Fast Company as one of the Next Big Things in Tech, named one of the best AI companies in healthcare by Inc., and selected as a LinkedIn Top Startup in 2024 and 2025. We’re backed by Oak HC/FT, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), OpenAI Startup Fund, and Kleiner Perkins — and we’re just getting started.

The Role

Ambience is hiring a Chief of Staff to lead the Office of the President (OOTP) and serve as the operating partner to our President and Co-Founder. The OOTP is a small, high-trust team that works on the company’s most consequential strategic frontiers: partnerships with health systems and technology platforms, ecosystem strategy, adjacent markets, and thought leadership. Decisions being made in healthcare AI right now will shape the industry for years, and this team sits at the center of them.

You’ll be the quarterback of the OOTP, leading a team of about four and partnering with recruiting to build it out. This is a high-proximity role. You’ll spend roughly 20 hours a week alongside the President, quickly become an extension of how he thinks and operates, and over time act as his proxy in rooms he can’t be in. Few roles offer this kind of exposure to a founder, the board, and the full scope of a high-growth company.

Required: Willing to work 3 days a week from the San Francisco office.

What You’ll Do

  • Run the OOTP as an operating unit: Hold the full context across every active workstream, set priorities and OKRs, and make sure the right people are on the right problems at the right time. You’ll know when to push, when to steer and when to escalate.
  • Build and lead the team: Hire, onboard and develop a team of high-caliber operators. Act as a player-coach who rolls up their sleeves when the details get hard, and teach the frameworks that help people solve the next problem on their own.
  • Drive high-stakes partnerships: Shape the joint value story, run the analysis behind it (financial modeling, market sizing, deal structuring), and coordinate across internal and external stakeholders. When a 72-hour negotiation sprint happens, you’ll be in the room.
  • Bring the President what he can’t see: Gather insight from across the company and the market, spot issues early, and make sure the President’s time goes to the highest-leverage problems.
  • Own the written work: Draft and sharpen memos, board materials, keynotes and decision documents that move the company forward.
  • Build AI-native operating systems: Help scale Ambience’s company-wide knowledge system and run the OOTP as an AI-first team that uses AI for research, first drafts, meeting prep and decision tracking.
  • Lead through ambiguity: Take problems that fall outside existing team boundaries and drive them to resolution, from first framing to final outcome.

Who You Are

  • Proven Operator: You bring 5 to 10+ years of experience with a real operating track record. Consulting or banking can be a great foundation, as long as you’ve also driven results as an operator, not just advised on them.
  • People Leader: You’ve managed and developed high performers, and you have a clear point of view on how to grow them.
  • Quantitatively Sharp: You can build a financial model, structure a deal, and reason clearly about unit economics and margin.
  • Exceptional Writer: Ambience runs on memos. Your writing is clear, precise and organized, because for you writing is thinking.
  • Extreme Owner: You take hard, ambiguous problems all the way to resolution without needing to be managed through each step. When something goes wrong, you first ask what you could have done differently.
  • AI-Native Builder: You think about AI as systems that compound over time, not just a faster way to draft an email. We’ll ask what you’ve built with AI in the last six months.
  • High Slope: We value your growth rate over your starting point. Every six months, you can point to something you couldn’t have done six months earlier.
  • Mission-Aligned: You’re excited to help shape how AI transforms healthcare, and you want a true partnership with a founder. Mutual fit matters as much to us as any line on your résumé.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with foundation models, AI infrastructure or hyperscaler partnerships.
  • Familiarity with how large health systems buy, implement and adopt technology.
  • Exposure to adjacent healthcare markets such as revenue cycle, payers or life sciences.
  • Prior experience in a Chief of Staff, founder’s office, or strategy and operations role at a high-growth startup.

Life at Ambience

Working at Ambience means opting into a high-ownership, high-trust environment built for people who want to grow fast, operate decisively and focus on work that matters. This could be the right place for you if you want to

  • Work on mission-critical AI technology that directly improves clinicians’ day-to-day lives and health system financial health across some of the most complex, high-stakes workflows in the world.
  • Join a “dream team” culture where we hire exceptional people, expect exceptional outcomes and invest deeply in feedback and continuous growth. We operate as a championship team, and that means being ok with hard, uncomfortable, ambiguous problems that lead to real greatness.
  • Operate with real ownership and accountability in an environment where there are no bystanders: If something is broken, we fix it! You will have meaningful autonomy and be expected to drive work to completion.

To help you do your best work, we pair these expectations with benefits intentionally designed to help you feel supported and safe at Ambience and beyond. Some of our key benefits include

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents
  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 3% of base salary
  • A remote-friendly culture (with a San Francisco HQ) and full equipment provisioning to ensure you can work effectively from wherever you’re based.
  • Parental leave to support your family needs
  • Annual company-wide off-sites, team off-sites and regular team lunches and all-hands gatherings, with travel, lodging and meals covered
  • Flexible time off with no annual cap, company-wide holidays and an annual holiday shutdown from December 24–January 1 designed to support real rest and long-term sustainability.
