About the role

What you'll do

The Casual Clinical Coder provides high quality, accurate and timely morbidity and procedural coding to support Queensland Health's statewide activity reporting requirements. The role is acknowledged as having competent clinical coding skills across a broad range of specialties, with a minimum of two years' full time coding experience in a tertiary or large hospital setting.

Casual Clinical Coders support the State HIM and Clinical Coding Team by providing surge capacity during periods of increased demand, leave coverage, or workforce shortages across Queensland Hospital and Health Services (HHSs). Work may be allocated across multiple facilities and specialties and may be performed remotely or onsite as required.

About you

We are searching for someone who:

  • Can deliver accurate, timely ICD‑10‑AM/ACHI coding, DRG grouping, data verification and registry/audit requirements using all relevant clinical systems in accordance with ACS, national/state advice and Queensland Health guidelines.
  • Will contribute to statewide coding quality through audits, collaboration with HIM and Coding teams, adherence to QH standards, and completion of duties as directed.
  • Achieves required throughput and accuracy while supporting statewide coding operations, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality, and performing tasks as directed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of coding standards, legislation and clinical practice changes while actively participating in education, forums and specialist training.

Important to note

A submission of an EOI application and talent pool application is not a guarantee that you will be offered employment with Queensland Health. Being in the casual pool does not mean you will automatically be considered for advertised vacancies when they arise - so you should apply for these via the normal process if they are of interest to you.
