About the role

Role Description

As a Product Engineer at Dropbox, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of collaboration and file sharing. Your responsibilities will revolve around developing and enhancing our suite of Dropbox Products to deliver exceptional user experiences. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, turning innovative ideas into robust, scalable, and user-friendly features.

This year, Dropbox is on a mission to expedite the creation and implementation of AI-enable products by providing a comprehensive AI technology stack that facilitates speedy prototyping and reliable deployment of AI-driven functionalities.

Our Engineering Career Framework is viewable by anyone outside the company and describes what’s expected for our engineers at each of our career levels. Check out our blog post on this topic and more here.

Responsibilities

  • Independently identify and deliver software solutions through a set of milestones spanning a specific product focus or a multi-component system
  • Write code alongside junior engineers, demonstrating hands-on technical leadership, understanding root causes, and leading by example.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and analysts to deeply understand user needs and develop products that meet those needs.
  • Develop and execute both short and long-term roadmaps, balancing business impact, user experience, and technical excellence.
  • Foster a positive team and company culture through mentorship, participation in interviews, and engagement in new initiatives.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with other engineering teams and collaborate effectively with other functions within Dropbox.

On-call work may be necessary occasionally to help address bugs, outages, or other operational issues, with the goal of maintaining a stable and high-quality experience for our customers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering or related industry experience.
  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent technical experience.
  • Proven track record in identifying and delivering software solutions through a set of milestones spanning a specific product focus or a multi-component system
  • Developed and shipped large-scale web applications with a user-centric mindset.
  • Proficiency in building user-facing software and supporting systems and libraries for web and/or desktop platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Contributions to open source projects or technical communities
  • Full-Stack Development
  • Technologies: MySQL, Python, Go, Java, Rust

Durable Skills

AI fluency means using these tools to amplify human judgment, not replace it. We believe people with these skills will thrive as work and technology continue to evolve:

  • Awareness: Understand yourself and others.
  • Judgment: Evaluate information and make decisions in complex situations.
  • Adaptability: Learn, adjust, and stay effective through change.
  • Connection: Communicate, collaborate, and build trust.

To learn more about why these skills matter and what the data shows about thriving through change, read this blog post from our Chief People Officer, Melanie Rosenwasser.
