About The Citadel College

The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, is a public senior military college located in Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 1842, The Citadel has a rich history steeped in tradition and centered on our core values of honor, duty and state and country. The Citadel has been ranked #1 Public College in the South, offering up to a master’s degree, for fourteen consecutive years, and one of the Ten Most Innovative Schools in the South by U.S. News and World Report.

The Citadel hosts 2,300 undergraduate students who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets with an additional 1,000 students attending the graduate college through evening and online programs. Students can choose from 31 Majors, 57 Minors, pre-health professions, and pre-law (a concentration in political science) with an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio guaranteeing students a quality education.

The Citadel is a senior military college, and our graduate programs enroll civilian students taught by faculty who are career educators. If you are looking for a place where your teaching load is real, your students are close at hand, and your colleagues know P-12 schools from the inside, this is that place. Charleston is a good place to live while you do it.

Along with a great environment for students and faculty, The Citadel is located on the banks of the Ashley River in downtown Charleston, where you will be close to great restaurants, shopping and all of the art, entertainment and culture that can only be found in historic Charleston.
