About the role

The Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or untenured Associate Professor. We give high priority to the overall originality and promise of the candidate’s work, and aim to broaden the range of what bioengineering is and what it can do – from biomedical to biological engineering, as well as understanding and sustaining life on our planet. We therefore encourage applications from candidates across any discipline whose work contributes to the development, translation, and/or application of innovative concepts, tools, or methodologies in any aspect of bioengineering. Within the applicant's chosen area, we will be looking for exceptional contributions, or compelling evidence of potential to achieve them. Please visit our website for more information about the Bioengineering Department at http://bioengineering.stanford.edu/.

Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a Ph.D. in the advertised field or a closely related one. They must also demonstrate the ability to pursue an independent research program. A successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to build and lead a team of graduate students in Ph.D. research. Ideal candidates should also demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills.

Applications should include a resume, brief statements of research and teaching interests (3-5 pages total for both combined), and the names and e-mail addresses of 3-5 references. Letters of recommendation will be requested immediately after the application is submitted. Candidates should apply online at: https://facultypositions.stanford.edu/jobs/search.

The Bioengineering Department, School of Engineering, and Stanford University value faculty who will help foster an open and respectful academic environment for colleagues, students, and staff with a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. Candidates may choose to include as part of their research and teaching statements a brief discussion about how their work and experience will further these values.

Application review will begin on October 16, 2026. Applications submitted later than this date may also be considered; however, we anticipate that interviews will begin in the fall term, so applicants are encouraged to apply early. Please forward questions to bioefacultysearch@lists.stanford.edu.

The expected base pay range for this position is:

Assistant Professor: $144,100- $163,766

Associate Professor (untenured): $158,510 - $196,803

This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment and does not include summer salary. For more information about compensation and our wide range of benefits, including housing assistance, please contact the hiring department.

Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire.
