About the role

The Departments of Political Science and Environmental Studies at Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invite applications for a tenure-track position beginning July 1, 2027.

Qualified applicants will have a strong teaching and research background in comparative politics, environmental politics, and international relations. The successful candidate would be appointed in both Political Science (60%) and Environmental Studies (40%), teach established courses in the curricula of both departments, and contribute upper-level courses on environmental politics and policy in their areas of expertise. The teaching load is five courses per year, three in Political Science and two in Environmental Studies. The search committee especially welcomes applications from candidates who could teach comparative politics courses for Political Science. Candidates should demonstrate their commitment to a career in the liberal arts. We will prioritize candidates with a strong record of teaching and research excellence; a commitment to student advising and mentorship; and plans to incorporate student researchers into their research programs. Candidates also must have a Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment (July 2027).

All application materials must be submitted electronically to http://careers.kenyon.edu. A complete application will include: 1) a cover letter discussing the applicant’s teaching experience, research interests and scholarship; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a statement of teaching philosophy with evidence of teaching excellence and a discussion of courses that the candidate has taught and can teach; 4) a writing sample; 5) an unofficial graduate transcript; and 6) contact information for three references. Review of completed applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. To ensure full consideration, please submit all application materials by September 15, 2026. Additional materials may be requested from candidates at a later date.
