About the role

Do you want your work to make a difference for NSW?

Working to protect the state’s environment and heritage.

  • Ongoing full-time opportunity
  • All NPWS office locations will be considered - regional location encouraged/Hybrid working supported
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $102K pa to $113K pa + employer's contribution to superannuation

Are you a curious communicator who enjoys variety, building relationships and making a real impact?

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for an Assistant Community Engagement Officer to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

This is an internal-facing role. Unlike many community engagement positions, you won't be spending your time facilitating public meetings or consulting directly with external communities. Instead, you'll work behind the scenes with NPWS staff across NSW to develop resources, communications and engagement programs that support conservation, visitor experience and community outcomes.

You'll build relationships with a diverse range of internal stakeholders, helping project teams deliver effective engagement activities and communications. Success in this role comes from collaboration, strong written communication and the ability to quickly adapt to new projects and priorities.

The role combines interesting, high-profile project work with routine but essential tasks such as maintaining stakeholder databases, preparing email communications, coordinating project activities and updating systems. We're looking for someone who sees value in both and who is happy to roll up their sleeves, tackle the everyday essentials and then pivot to new and interesting challenges when they arise.

About you

Curious, adaptable and willing to give things a go, you’ll be someone who:

  • Has strong written communication skills
  • Learns new systems and technology quickly
  • Enjoys building relationships with a wide range of people
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Is proactive, adaptable and self-motivated
  • Has an interest in conservation, communications or community engagement

Why this role?

At NPWS, your work contributes to something bigger.

You'll help support projects that conserve some of NSW's most remarkable natural and cultural landscapes while improving the experiences of millions of visitors each year.

If you're a confident writer, a natural problem solver and someone who loves learning new things, we'd love to hear from you.

Bring your curiosity, initiative and ideas and help us create lasting impact for people, parks and nature across NSW.
